Bio
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1966 with a degree in education, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force immediately after graduation. ________________________________________________________________________________ After I earned my Air Force pilot wings in 1967, I proceeded to F-4 fighter training, and then onto Vietnam where I flew 430 combat missions over a 3-year period. I spent my last ten years in the Air Force flying the F-15 fighter aircraft , while getting my Master's Degree along the way. ________________________________________________________________________________ In 1999 I was hired by Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), a private college-prep boarding school in Virginia. As a faculty member, I designed, and taught two courses, Critical Thinking and Great Thinkers. I retired from the Academy in 2009, where I now own a small editing business. ________________________________________________________________________________ I have four children and two grandchildren. My passions are reading, writing, and teaching/mentoring young people. ________________________________________________________________________________ I am sure this is more information than you ever wanted to know about anyone.

The Well Of Despair

Deep and cavernous, with

Only the reflection

Of myself

Visible.

Teflon walls;

Can’t grab hold;

Can’t get out;

Don’t care.

Slipping,

Sliding,

Morosely

The distinction between historian and poet is not in the one writing prose and the other verse... the one describes the thing that has been, and the other a kind of thing that might be.  Hence poetry is something more philosophic and of graver import than history,Read full post »

 A poet must leave traces of his passage, not proof.

LC Neal wrote a wonderful treatise on poetry that I have included in this PP collection.   Poets and non-poets have argued over "what is poetry" for millennia.  We will/… Read full post »

I just went back and looked at PP1 from this past July 3rd, and saw that there were 36 poems on that list.  Back then, poetry was definitely the red-headed stepchild of Open Salon.  This week it was on the cover!  That is due to your persistence and… Read full post »

I took it personally when I saw and heard about the videos that Capt. Owen Honors showed to his troops aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise in 2007.  Three things bothered me about what he did:  (1) He is a fighter pilot, (2) He is a commissione/Read full post »
