101 Words: Hidden Homecomings

Rate: 7 Flag

Hidden from view, shrouded by flags, secretly they arrive. More than can easily be counted.

Homecomings in boxes, each one alike, returning the mangled mess of our love; our beautiful children, our love of each other, love for the world.

But where are the tears? Can you hear their families’ cries? Each shattered voice, every ragged sob has been silenced by statecraft and lies.

There is crime in war as well as in peace, but there are sins that can't be forgiven when we abandon beliefs. To believe we stand united as one means holding the hands of those come undone.

Really well done. Would love to see another 101 words like this.
The hidden travesty, as if there is shame in the boxes, the boxes that hold those well loved. Those who should be honored. Thank you.
beautifully captured. thank you.
yes, yes, yes. Where are the tears indeed.
How did I miss this? It's gorgeous, fluid, poignant writing. You have managed to express in 101 words what our current warmongering leaders continue to ignore. Thank you.
Beautiful, David.
Yes, the sacrifices for these wars--that not all share--are hidden from view.
I look forward to the transparency and accountability that Obama promises.
