The toughest part of this column is spelling Medjugorje where the Holy Mary revealed herself to three children. Working at a Jesuit college, one hears the rumors about such things. There are reported but not yet accepted by the church. The last official visit was at Fatima in which the children were told that the next great threat to the Church would come from the East. And that Joan of Arc was a Saint. It also predicted a pope would be shot. John Paul after being shot and being informed about the prediction ask “his people” why they didn't tell him to which they replied, “We didn't want to worry you.”
That aside, Medjugorje came forth in the late eighties. It has not been accepted and what I heard had nothing to do with predictions but has more to do which whom Mary visits. Maybe because of the movie, Song of Bernadette, we think of the children as being teenagers but they are not. These children were seven or eight. There were three of them, one girl and two boys.
The children reported that Mary told them she was very poor which made them think she was a communist because as one of the boys said, “Tito always said communists were poor.” She gave each child a piece of candy, the girls wrapped in blue and the boys in green. It was a brilliant color and children tried to save it but they would always disappear but the candy was good.
The two boys are both priests now and the girl, a sister.
One other visit is said to have occurred in the District of Columbia in 1938 when Mary appeared to a trio again. She is reputed to have told them that Franklin Roosevelt needed to run for a third term so he could save the world.
