What good is Art?

The old saying goes, "buy land - they ain't making any more of it."  Some would hold that this could also apply to Art.

My defense of Art is directed to painting and sculpture because that is my field of study in school.  To me, the term Art (always capitalized) encompasses… Read full post »

Supremes to us: Drop Dead?

Isn't Medicare a mandated health insurance program?  Is the fact that it's the government on the hook for the payments the only thing that makes it Constitutional?

If the Supreme Court does gut the AHCA, then single payer is the cure.  I trust, that should that be the path chosen for… Read full post »

Newt The Veep

Personally I believe that President Obama will be re-elected. His performance this term has been stellar while restoring both morality and intellect to the office.

That said, it seems clear that Romney will get the top nod.  But he will need a very strong running mate.

The best choice for… Read full post »

Why would you vote for Romney?

It's a given that most readers of my posts are moderate to liberal.  But I am befuddled by the still strong anti-Obama sentiment.

In my humble opinion Barack Obama has been doing an outstanding job of leading the country out of several quagmires.  The other party has yet to field… Read full post »

A Fresh Hell For Santorum

Dear God, hear my prayer.

Please cause Rick Santorum to be elected President along with a comfortably veto-proof severely progressive congress.

Four years of veto over-rides would surely be appropriate penance for the sins I'm certain he confesses to you daily.

Amen  Read full post »

If you believe that "conventional wisdom" is an oxymoron, then you might agree that some of our most intractible problems can be solved by thinking outside the mind.  Here are some really bad ideas turned upside down to discover that they become really good to great ideas if you just let… Read full post »

Obama's 500 seat strategy.

President Obama pursued a 50 state strategy to win the nomination and election in 2008.  This time around he has been handed a more daunting challenge, and an unusal opertunity.

The challenge won't come from an impressive Republican opponent.  The dragon this time isn't even a real elephant… Read full post »

The Million Dollar Mystery.

I heard a story on NPR today, looking for $million plus job creators who could verify the Republican's stupid objection to the surtax Obama wants to levy to pay for the middle class tax "holiday" extension.

Nobody who agreed with the Republicans would go on the radio to connect the dots… Read full post »

Why we need High Speed Rail.

President Obama's speech in Kansas restated his support for "infrastructure construction", which presumably includes bullet trains.

A lot of people think bullet trains would be a boondoggle.  But profitability of the operational system is not the ultimate benefit.  Just ask Microsoft.

Lipitor goes off-patent in the U.S. November 30.  This month generic statins went from $4.00 lists (Wal-Mart) to a  much higher price.   Free market economics would suggest that increased options in generic statins would push prices down, not up.  Anybody know what's going on?

Oh, how I wish I could express my displeasure with the current administration by voting for another, but the last time I did that we got Ronald Reagan.

So if you know the answer to these questions, or where to find them, I'd appreciate the help.

Why does the right to life end at birth?

I'm just saying.....

My fellow Americans,

After a brief and shallow online search, I find that running for the Office of Vice-President of the United States is kind of a murky process.  Everyone knows that the Veep is picked as a running mate by the Presidential candidates, but this seems to be more custom… Read full post »

Driving in Alabama while American.

To: Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State

RE:  Driving through Alabama.

Dear Mr. Secretary,

Since you are the actual author of the bill recently passed in Alabama authorizing public servants to through illegals in jail if they can't prove they are here legally, I seek your clarification on this… Read full post »

Could the Post Office go Granular?

All the richest drop outs with web cred talk about making their sites/business models etc. more “granular”.  Meaning that technology helps define demographics into smaller and smaller groups to serve up content with strong appeal to each group. Ultimate granularity is the individual./… Read full post »

Class Warfare, My Ass.

So these guys with the "class warfare" talking points think they are better than us?  They are the upper class, for whom, we lesser mortals are coming to take away their money and waste it on bridges, roads and shit?

Listen friends, when that bridge falls down, it kills the… Read full post »

Okay all you "Tea Partiers" and rich people.  You want to save the world without paying taxes.  Then make a donation instead.  It's even tax deductible!  (I think.)  It's easy, it's good for America and it's the right thing to do.  And I mean that in every sense of the w… Read full post »

Getting to Great.

The jobs report today painted a pretty picture of the rich taking a dump on the middle class and those who want to join or rejoin the middle class.

Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country.  And by that Virtual… Read full post »

Smart Phones Are Stupid Business.

I want my mind back, goddamnit!  This crap about acquiring new wisdom and joint pain with age is getting pretty freakin’ old itself.  Forget the flip remarks about senior moments or “mad cow”, my brain is shutting down, and I very well could live another 20 years or so &nd… Read full post »

In the coming months  we will be focusing on the 2012 election.  Even though the central issues should be creating more jobs, reducing the deficit and forming a more perfect union, it won't be. It may seem like we're all talking about it, but the Devil is in the details, and… Read full post »

MSNBC WTF?

Tornado coverage.

Welcome to the special hell that is tornado alley.  Now go home.  Those of us who live with great plains weather know that tornado tracking on local TV is a necessary evil.  But is does not make for riveting TV.  The odds of having a TV crew… Read full post »

THE BLACK/REPUBLICAN PARADOX.

By now many of us have noticed that there seems to be little difference between the policies of President Obama and those of President Bush.  I qualify this observation in that the first six years of the Bush administration were more of a Chaney/Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld junta. I think the last two yea… Read full post »

My Dream HBO Special

A Very Special "Real Time with Bill Maher"

Dream panel:

  • Dennis Miller
  • Ben Affleck
  • John Stewart

No individual guests, no "new rules", no prisoners.  Maher would be out-weighed intellectually, but it would be a cage match for the ages.

I know Affleck seems out of place, but… Read full post »
