Too Busy Taking Care of the Kids to Understand the FAFSA?

Rate: 0 Flag

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is one of the most useful tools in acquiring student aid from the government. It can give you a shot at entering quality educational institutions while still paying a relatively low amount of money a year - sometimes even paying nothing at all if you can get a scholarship your way.

Filling out the FAFSA, however, is not quite as easy for those who are not familiar with how things work – especially for single moms that have very little time to spare. This is why many schools provide many opportunities to help students understand the ins and outs of FAFSA.

Take for instance the Harris-Stowe State University, which is hosting a “FAFSA Frenzy” to connect students and parents with financial aid by working together with professionals to fill out the FAFSA. Then there’s the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, which created the Financial Aid and Student Employment office. This office then hosts “FAFSA Fest” sessions to provide help for FAFSA applications. Eastern Connecticut State University even uses its own professors and students knowledgeable about the FAFSA to help those who do not know much about the process of application.

It is for this reason that interested students can find a treasure trove of information about the FAFSA within their own campuses.

Simply walking into the financial aid office can also provide a lot of information about local college scholarships and grants exclusive to a particular university or county. The FAFSA is one thing, but sometimes you just have to approach the offices directly and see how you can avail of local scholarships. This is especially true for single moms, who can avail of other forms of aid like on-campus childcare or even housing assistance.

Just the same, it is still important to visit the local financial aid offices of the various universities you are applying for. Not only will you be able to find information about the FAFSA application process, but you might even be surprised to find out that you may qualify for scholarships and assistance that are exclusive for single moms!
