What defines me? I'd love to write this really great adventure story, but alas, it be a work of fiction. I'm a mom of one, my son, now 15 (yes we're dealing with the teenage years) my furry children I have 4 cats, 2 dogs (1 is on loan from a sick family member) and 3 chickens. I try to do the best I can at whatever I do, keep out of trouble (which never seems to work) and get as much out of life as I possibly can in the short time I'm allotted. After all, " You only live twice" ;) Well, that's me

Your Own Personal Jesus...

Rate: 5 Flag

At work today it was discussed how someones'  18 yr old son was coming home from college "unshaven" and his wife blew a gasket and said he either goes and gets shaved head and all or she'll do it for him. Because they were going to church while he was visiting.

So my question is, if everyone loves Jesus and this is the most common image seen of him. What's the grudge against beards and long hair all about?

I have often had this discussion with people as I have always had a thing for long hair guys. If someone made a comment about the length of someone's hair, I'd use the Jesus image or the fact that God made animals hair grow to certain lengths and then stop, that's all the longer it gets. If man were meant to have a specific length hair would it not be the same for us?

Why would someone "blow a gasket" is it really just about the lack of control? The loss of the child gone off to college and the return of the man he is trying to become? Or is it just the fact that so many people think everyone should fit into the same box? That if you dare to be different or show any individuality then they must try to humliate it out of you? Beat you down until you are the same as them?

Any thoughts? Comments? Opinions?

nothing wrong with facial or head hair--as long as there are nets involved when these hairy folks work in the food services industry.
I'm guessing if you get to the bottom of it its that on a variety of levels its an affront to the mother's ego. On some level, her son growing his hair represents his rebelling against his parents values - ouch. Perhaps she will be embarassed if other uptight church ladies see him. ouch. Maybe they'll even think that she must not be a good mother, if her son would rebel like that. ouch. Maybe her son doesn't "love" me. ouch.

ego under attack? launch protective countermeasures...hmmm...which one first...oh, yes...blown gasket, that should work.
I never quite got that either DD. You would think shaving the face and head would be the anti-Jesus thing to do. :-)
People are very strange about this. My grandmother, who I must confess, has Alzheimer's and so says very strange things said once, "All those men growing their hair like women. Next, they'll be cutting off their penises."

Yes. That follows, grandma.

I lot of little ouches = one uptight mom huh Rob?
I agree Greg, it would seem like it would be at least some what acceptable to look or at least aspire to look like the one you worship?
Odette, if you think about it, your grandmom may have Alzheimer's , but there are men that do that...but I'm not sure if they grow their hair long first or not though?
