Open Call- OS & Love Songs-newish Freak Folk

Rate: 9 Flag

One of my all time favs! Love the words and the blase tone of the singer.
Isn't that what old love is all about? ;)

These folks are from Wisconsin (!) Guess it must be the cold winters
that drive a person to create such songs.

Valentine, I killed my valentine
and I laughed until I cried for my valentine.

A cover, not the original, yet fun!

This is the original version by the original group. Animal Collective is out of Baltimore, now stationed in New York.

Hey....these are just charming! Thank you for sharing...xox
That first song was magnificent! I'm going to push through the rest of them, but I can't get over that Jack and the Beanstalk video. Blew me away, it did.
Okay, so who did write the book of love and where do I get a copy?
Love that first song !!!! Very nice.

These are some intriguing picks. I would like to know more of what you are listening to. I pride myself, but with the exception of Bobby Bare, Jr. I am unfamiliar with all of your artists. I'll dig in and check them out some more for sure.
Thanks, Robin, I love this stuff. My husband, Ed, is the one that helps me listen to newer stuff. Otherwise, I'd be stuck in the 70's!
xoxo to you, too.
Yeah, Rich, that is a cute old-fashioned movie, and, I love the words, too, to the first one. Cracks me up and so true!

thanks!
Rich,
I've updated this blog for you. Hope you look into these people, lots of fun music is being made today.
Thanks, JD, it's my favorite!
John,
just checked, you can get "The Book of Love" for $17.15 at Amazon.com. ;)
The Book of Love is beautiful. I hope you don't mind, I added it to my google blog. Mostly my family goes there (which is why I blog what I really want to say HERE).

Thanks Debbs4, you made my night.

Btw, what's it like living in Idaho?
Robin, Jill is a Colorado native, you know. I believe she lives in Los Angeles now. She has several very striking songs, but one of the better, darker ones is entitled "Clever".
Oops, posted that on the wrong thread.

Second time I've done that in a week.
Hey, Rich, at least you knew to come back here!
Coming to north Idaho by way of Chicago and having been born in the S.F. Bay Area, I'd have to say it is GREAT! tho there is not a whole lot of anything going on. unless you are interested in moose and neo-nazis and such.
Here's a blog I wrote about it awhile ago:

Ooops, that last one was for skeletnwmn. :~)
You live in Idaho?
Now THAT is interesting !!!
yeah, JD, it is ALWAYS interesting living here in North Idaho, (emphasis on "North"). ;)
Dear WalkAwayHappy,
Next time you are out here, give a holler and I will show you around!

ps
grow where you are planted. hope you grow to love Georgia.
Autumn is coming on and things are beginning to fade in the Midwest. Hope this link works, Debbs4. Eva Cassidy.
Thanks, Billy, Eva had such a grand voice for such a little lady. Thank you for the reminder, I'm listening to her now, Edo says she sounds like Roberta Flack. What'd ya think?
and, I lOVE this song, the autumn leaves drift by my window. so beautiful!
JD,
what is in N Idaho? hmmm, lots of beautiful lakes, huckleberries, bears, moose, wolves, deer. lots of retirees from California. Cold winters, great summers. people say that where we live is like it used to be 20 years ago, in attitude and values, i guess. we like it and fit right in, despite having lived in chicago for 8 years and from having been raised in Cal (the SF bay area). People are people no matter where you go. Come up for a visit sometime!
That does sound wonderful...I have to admit it sounds a LOT better to me than a big city.
Yes, JD, it is a great place. there are wonderful, skiable mountains, too. i also feel that if you want, you could take whatever idea you have and turn it into a business, as idaho seems to be amenable to that concept. sure it may not fly, but it is great to have opportunities, dependent on the person.
we also have the heritage of he Kootenai and Coeur d Alene Indians and there is a reservation not to very far from here. though it just looks like a little farming community.
what is it like where you live?
Well, I went to a funeral as you know. He died the day before their 60th wedding anniversary, and at the funeral she said, --"He was the core of my joy." In reference to first pick ---That is what love is all about! You always come up with great stuff -- I am getting an education.
gal80,
"He was the core of my joy."
that is beautiful and makes me tear up.
thanks for sharing.

Hey Deb...I don't know how you find these, some are so obscure and wonderful. Now if I could just figure out how to get the video's into my blog I would be a very happy camper. Thanks once again for bringing a smile to my face.
I live In Kansas City Missouri. Patricia K has done some recent posts on what we have to do here in KC. It is a city...but not huge...having about 30 square blocks of "city like" buildings. The suburbs, where I live..spread out dramatically, as it is built out rather than up.
To be honest. I have never lived anywhere else. so I do not know how to compare it.
JD, it's nice to have a place you've known your whole life. I hope you appreciate that. When we moved from California to Illinois, it took me 5 years to get used to the climate. I never got used to the fact that there are no mountains or ocean there. I used to try to imagine that Lake Michigan was somewhat like the ocean...except no salty air, no crashing waves. hmmm, it is hard to get over missing a place. But, I feel that I have done that, the getting over a place, in the 8+ years we've been here in Idaho.
I'd like to live in mountains someday,..but for now....I'll have to settle for driving over the Missouri River every day ging to work.
I do envy you the range of places you have lived..especially if you are happy where you are now.
Great picks! Tons of fun....so rated
