I'd like to say a big THANKYOU to RicTeresa who made my great blog banner. He is an AWESOME talent and our very own creative artist here on OS. So, check out his amazing work, you'll be very glad you did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm married to my first and only husband, Edo, of 32 years. we have 9 children (!), 6 boys, 3 girls, and, yes, i do know about birth control, thank you very much! i'm only on OS to share a little of what i know and to find out what you know, too. when i'm not around for awhile, it's 'cause i've gotten behind in my laundry and can be found folding hundreds of socks, but i'll come out of the dungeon and visit again, promise!

thought i'd write a little about what's been going on here in n. idaho. we had some snowfall today, all day, and some after-Christmas errands have kept me busy. Ina and i made some butter cookies and we had meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner. the kids played their games and i watched a, (new to me), bbc show, Black Books.

very funny and it's free on hulu.com. i like free stuff, especially since our own personal economy is shot. i've been working and find it hard to keep up with everything that a large family requires. plus, Edo travels with his job.ED-MIRROR LAKE

this makes it difficult to deal with the teenage boys at times, especially when it comes to schoolwork. so, we've had our share of shockingly bad grades from 3 of the guys. sadness. and so much more so since reading Outliers

200px-Outlierswhich details how you can become expert in a subject simply by applying yourself and giving it 10,000 hours. imagine! with that in mind, i am an expert at mothering, wifing (not wi-fi-ing), cooking, laundering, breathing, sleeping. oh that my boys would grasp that concept and apply themselves, there would be much peace in our home.

thanks if you've read my rambles this far. and may there be peace in your home this year!

It is a national problem with children and schools. We have given children far to many distractions away from education. Teachers are not to blame, our system is the failure. Two major HS's in St Louis are closing because of drop-out rates, low-test scores overall both are located in lower class neighborhoods. Most have cell-phones and can text in coded alpha-numeric gibberish but couldn't tell you where pandas came from (you understand). Stay on them Deb, waiting for them to realize that the real world isn't an advertisement will be to late. I sincerely hope things get better for you. Your an exceptional woman with wonderful talents. My best to you and your family from mine. Today is only yesterday, tomorrow can be yours. Your Friend, older/exasperated
Hi Debbs, Happy New Year! My Christmas holiday has been shut in because of the extraordinary weather, so I've caught up on the laundry, thank Heaven ;) ! I'm with you about the boys, though. The only thing that works is bribery and it's so difficult to apply anything like that as an almost-single mom! Do the boys watch 'Black Books' with you? My kids adore Dylan Moran so much we bought the box-set - aagh, hulu!!! Clumping down to the basement, for some soothing ironing awaits ....
wow -- I love this tv show. Thanks Debbs. Gotta run, I'll cathcha later.
So how come I haven't won the lottery? I've spent at least ten thousand hours mulling over which six numbers to pick. Happy New Year -- with a higher grade point average for the boys.

Thanks, all, for stopping by. We are down to gruel, water and hard labor (which means dish duty) for the boys. Will it motivate them to stay focused when school starts up next week? Only time will tell.
Happy New Year and Good Luck in 2010. God Bless you and family.
Hair Mary...no, wait, I remember...Nair Mary....no, that's not it...damn, it's been so long.

Funny side note: My mother died recently. At the wake, a priest said the rosary as is the custom. My seven year old nephew behaved himself impressively, so during the fourth decat (that's forth Hail Marys), I turned to give him the thumps up. In perfect seven year old fashion, he lifted his hands in supplication and mouthed, "Again!!!!!) My sentiments exactly.
