Bio
Writer, editor, singer, artist. Still adore Obama. He is brilliant, sincere, unpretentious, classy. A true leader, gazing down, bemused, as the petty GOP contenders claw each other's eyes out like 13 year old girls. The country is poised on the edge of recovery, thanks to his steady hand: unemployment is down, the stock market is up, the car industry is back in business, and banks are paying back the bailout money, with profits going to the government. Bin Laden is dead, and our boys are coming back from Iraq, just as he promised. If only he could get his jobs bill past the obstructionist Republicans, who are willing to destroy the middle class simply to regain power, this country would be back on its feet in no time! So glad there is absolutely no competition for his office. All the sane Republicans know there's not one among them that could handle the most difficult job in the world, so they're in hiding, while their two representatives, Romney (aka Romney-the-Dog-Abuser) and Gingrich (aka Gingrich-the-Wife-Abuser) battle it out.

Pure Joy.

Rate: 22 Flag

Pure joy.  I had to share it.  I'm teary-eyed.  Wish I was adept enough to link it to the word "joy".

Reminds me of my favorite scene in "The Fisher King" - waltzing in Grand Central Station.

Hell, why not add that Fisher King scene while I'm at it?

And Liverpool Street Station (thank you to Monte Canfield for this one).

Go to the video and click on embed. Then copy it. Go to HTML on OS and click. Scroll to the bottom and paste. Click update in the HTML, lower left and then back to post to update. Sometimes in the HTML it gets doesn't take the first time so then go to the end of the text in HTML push enter and then try paste. Hope that helps.
Oh my God, thank you to Nanatehay and Dr. Spudman44 - I did it! I hope people take a minute to look at these - or even just the first one. It will make you feel good, guaranteed.
Beautiful! Ahhhhh "The Fisher King"! And I thought I was the only person who loved that film!

I loved the videos, by the way. Fuck, I am so one-minded sometimes.
Damn it, dcvdickens! A grown 48-year-old man can't cry at work! (Well, obviously, he can, though he probably shouldn't!)

Is there any thing more wonderful than an all-out expression of human joy that takes you completely by surprise?!?
Sorry - I f-ed up... posted the same vid twice. I think it's right now.
This was cool. Are you going to the OS soiree tomorrow? If so, looking forward to meeting you.
It is a thing of JOY!! Thanks, DCV!!
I love this video and think it was on another blog but I will rate it every time I see it. I smile just remembering the last time I listened to it. May your day be filled with joy.
hee!! I posted this over the weekend, having had the exact same reaction as you. Then found that yet another OSer had already done so. It's a good thing that so many of us found it, and our joy....
Yep! We need a LOT more of this every day! Thanks for the bump!
And thank you also to Trig and Kind of Blue! Ask and ye shall receive here, whether it's help changing a tire, or embedding a video. I love you guys! (I am awfully mushy today - sorry!)

(Note: If I ever have to move, will you guys be around?)
I LOVED it and wish I was there! We'd all be dancing, don't you think?

denese
Sandra already posted this!! So sorry to repost!! How humiliating. It's worth it though... Here's her post: http://open.salon.com/blog/sandra_no_longer_miller/2009/04/11/so_do_la_fa_me_do_re_so_do_la_ti_do_re_do
I've seen this, but it is fun to revisit!
Kind of Blue - I loved "The Fisher King" too, but the thing that made it orgasmic was this dance scene. I knew you'd have it on your beloved list!

Dr. Spudman44 - Cannot thank you enough for your help, and glad that your reward was to watch these (I hope), 'cause I have no extra cash.

JessBabbling - You are so right - there is nothing more beautiful than the expression of human joy - even when choreographed. This is what art, in its many forms, is all about!

OESheepdog - I will see you there! Will you be wearing a brightly colored dog collar, or at least pull your hair back so I'll recognize you?

OneCorgiLover - It is a thing of joy indeed! Couldn't think of a more appropriate word.

JRDog - Yeah, that's me: a day late. I hope Sandra Stephens will let me get away with it! Already posted on her blog: http://open.salon.com/blog/sandra_no_longer_miller/2009/04/11/so_do_la_fa_me_do_re_so_do_la_ti_do_re_do

Sandra Stephens: you are a gem and a lady for being so gracious about my gaffe. I hope it's OK - I'm going to your post to watch it again! And how interesting and wonderful that the best word we could use to describe it was: JOY!

Cartouche - Thank you! It's fun to find something so purely... good.

Denese - I would definitely be dancing! How could you not?

Nanatehay - Yes, thanks to YOU!

BuffyW - Thanks for RE-visiting. Sorry to all (especially Sandra Stephens) to repeat this, but really - it's worth it.
A friend of mine emailed me the link and I was enthralled. They looked like just ordinary people in Antwerp and to dance in such a way was pure joy to me!!

Thanks for posting it!!!
The Fischer King one reminds me of Terry Gilliams masterpiece, Brazil. You would probably like it.
i just came back to watch this again; it makes me smile from ear to ear. i'm going to have to make a post with dancing now, see what you started dcv?
Beautiful!! Loved it..
I had this sent to me by my sister and then it was posted on HuffPo. Truly wondrous. Even with the backstory.
I saw this before and just loved it . I loved how they did manage to get just ordinary folk to dance and enjoy it with them.

Monte
Wait a minute. I think that the one I saw was the one done in London.

Not sure, but almost positive.

Monte
Yep. It was the one in London that I remembered. Both are good.

Try this one.

Great post!

Monte
You made me so happy today with the presentation.
This was great, Miss Dickens! I loved the spontaneity of it 9even if I know it wasn't). Schweet!
no wonder I love you, I love the Fisher King. you've got a great heart d. Thanks for this.
Great clips, you dickens

Robin Williams is one of my favorite and Fisher King is one of his best.

RATED for the joy
"The Fisher King", a terrific film that I haven't rewatched in too many years, I'll have to revisit it, thanks for reminding me how wonderful it is, one of Gilliam's very best
I don't want money for my good deed but I was hoping for at least a virtual cleavage shot. Don't know what that means but it sounds kind of cool.
I love this! Each year I tell myself that I will not watch "The Sound of Music" on television again. And each year I'm seduced by Julie Andrews and held captive in the mountains of Salzburg. Yes, dcvdickens, this is pure joy!
I could not take the smile off my face watching those dancers in Antwerp. Very cool.
Thanks! There's a mood elevator! =o)
I love this post and the video!
I certainly hope the NYC OS'ers can put together a short piece like this reflecting the joy of meeting and celebrating the anniversary.
A small kick line? The wave? Karaoke gone wild?

Thanks for the joy.
LuisG - Isn't it lovely? I feel like every time I'm low, I could just watch it and feel raised up again.

JimGalt - Oh yes Jim, I also love "Brazil" - a great love story is embedded in all the craziness.

Nanatehay - Oh thank you for coming back! Please do make a post about dancing. How could you go wrong?

FireEyes24 - I'm so glad you liked it! Bringing joy to you and yours.

LisaSolodWarren - Well, I'm always the last to knw... but still, it is worth seeing everywhere, again and again. It makes you remember how much joy there is in life, in music and dancing, far away from Madonna and Britney Spears.

Monte - Anytime people are dancing anywhere, it's a good thing. (I almost said "it's a God thing", and perhaps I would be right!). One might say they feel the presence of a higher power! I followed the link you offered - another great one! May I include it in the body of my post?

MichaelRodgers - So schweet it is!

Bbd - And I love you!!! Thank you bbd - The Fisher King is so darn wonderful.

ChristopherRoberts - So many fans of The Fisher King! So happy to have found you all!

SteveArney - It's great to make people happy! Even when you're not directly responsible. I love it.

RoyJimenez - Another fan! We're a regular sub-culture!

Dr. Spudman44 - I will have some minor cleavage on display tonight... perhaps you will see me later... and then you will owe me one.

SteveBlevins - I just happened to see "The Sound of Music" this weekend - weird! It's as irresistible in its clean cut way as The Fisher King.

DaveScrivens - I know. The faces! They're so filled with wonder. I love watching them.

Shiral - Yes, it made me happy all day. I hope it did the same for you!

Aim - I hope we at least can pull off The Macarena" tonight...
I was thinking of re-creating this very routine here in Columbus at a cheesy mall. All I need are a few homeless guys and we've got an event!
Americain - A mall in Columbus, Ohio... filled with dancing... don't know if I like the sound of that. I think I just shuddered.
I hate that freaking song, but the video still makes me all smiley. :)

Fisher King is an awesome, awesome film. That and What Dreams May Come are my two fave Robin Williams movies. Really show his dramatic range. And make me cry, which is always a plus in my book. ;)
Merwoman - I totally agree with you on that song - it sticks to your wall, your doorknobs and your teeth, it's so sickly sweet. But - the dancing!

I too love a little bit of joyous weeping now and again... Don't think I saw "What Dreams May Come" - onto the queue it goes! Thank you!
Ooh, let me know what you think of the movie. If I remember correctly, it didn't do well in theaters--it's too hard to categorize--but I think it's wonderful.
Okay, I have now shown the "Sound of Music" clip to about 100 people, which means I have about 100 more to go. My mother was ecstatic! Everyone at the clinic was thrilled. I've seen it about twenty times. This is the best clip ever! Thanks again.
I hadn't seen that! I loved it!!! I am a huge Sound of Music fan ... I won't go into all the embarassing details, you'll just have to take my word for it :)
Thanks!!!
SteveBlevins - "Everyone at the clinic loved it..." Uh oh.

1_Irritated Mother - "The Sound of Music" is truly an embarrassing pleasure. I have a few others. Let's keep this to ourselves, shall we?

Merwoman - I moved it up to first in line in my queue. My review will come straight to you.
