A life-work should not be easy. Simple maybe but hard.
A life-work that is worthy will take time and space, it will
inform you and shape you in your struggle to bring it into
being. Your life-work will, like grace, cut away at what is
not essential, while illuminating what is. And you will do it,
will feel honoured and blessed to do it, because you love it
so much- because you must see it alive in the world.
A life-work is the thing that you love so much and know
so well, you could get up off your deathbed to do it, and
you’d still do it like no other.
Baryshnikov never has to dance one step again yet I know
he could get up off his deathbed to show a young dancer
how to move, and he’d take your breath away in the doing.
