Dances with Comic Books

Rate: 8 Flag
Recently, I spoke with a comic book publisher who might be interested in working with me. It was a good phone conversation, so, buoyed by the prospect of some potentially fun work, I actually ending the conversation with this:
"Okay, that sounds great! Tell ya what. Let's start with one title for me to work on. We'll do a little dance, see how we like each other as dance partners and if it works, keep on dancin'."
"Do a little dance?" "Dance partners?" What the hell? Obviously, my slick little comment was followed by stoney silence. Not wanted to be outdone in the stupid-things-to-say-in-a-business-setting sweepstakes, the publisher then responded, "Yowza."

I don't know what that means and I don't know if it makes me feel any less stupid.

I am way less smart on the phone than I am in writing.
Denis, is there a pattern here to you saying things or doing things (some drunken bar thing comes to my mind) that just might not be the best thing for your career? I mean I dunno, just asking. I think what you said is brilliant and I'm hoping that "yowza" is another word for brilliant.
well, gosh, i think i would have asked who was going to lead!
Still sitting by the phone?! I thought so. hehe Humans say the dumbest things sometimes. I am also guilty as charged.
hee hee Oh well, if it's comics, that person has his or her awkward moments, too. As a lover of comics (and one who always attends the Comic Con if possible), it's fun to be in a room with nice and smart geeky guys.
Maybe you've heard of the phrase "two left feet?" Perhaps there's a similar one for left-footed-slip-of-the-tongue. (I'm chortling in self-recognition here.)
Seems to me that your "comic" audition was successful :-)
See! My previous point is proven - Sexual attraction. Bingo.
