How Sean Hannity helped me

Rate: 9 Flag

It was May of 1999 and I was listening to the Sean Hannity Show on WABC-AM in New York City. He had a guest on and an accusation he hurled at the individual on his show was that Salon.com had written something favorable about him.

Hearing this I said to myself, "if Sean Hannity thinks there is something negative about Salon.com, then that is a web site that I need to check out." I have always been a progressive in case you were wondering about all of this.

You might ask, "Why were you listening to Sean Hannity?" and I would answer that you need to know what the opposition is thinking and that was the only reason for it. It was very instructive during the last few years of the Clinton Administration to understand where someone like Sean Hannity stood on the issues. I will add that he was not yet syndicated nationwide for the earlier period when I listened to him and was mainly in the New York metro market, as I recall.

As a result of Sean Hannity's banter, I became a regular reader of Salon.com starting in May, 1999 and I have never stopped. When the Premium Program was announced by David Talbot some years back, I signed up immediately to help Salon and have been a Premium member ever since.

It's interesting these days to have the parallel universes of both Salon.com and OpenSalon with the intersection of the two in the way of feature posts and the like, on a daily basis.

Anyone else have a Sean Hannity story?

Sean

To tell you the truth, I try to listen to him every now and then if I'm in the car on a long drive, for the same reason you mention. But I can only take his sanctimonious blather for about 10 minutes and then I have to change stations. I had never heard of him until the late 1990's.
Steve, much as it was useful to see "the other side" I dropped out after early 2000. Once in a while I'll see a video clip that a progressive web site has to show some recent bloviating on his television show, but I am not a watcher of the show itself. I remember the day when he played a Jennifer Flowers tape on the air and he was giggling like a school child totally into mischief on a school playground.
He has a great theme song!
Know thy enemy. Even if he is a flat headed dick.

you're not going to find my hannity watchers on this site. Too many "progressives" sitting on the left field horizon. Cup of joe is one of my favorite shows. Hannity is a talent and yes he is also full of himself as most celebritys and politicians are. If being is his antithesis is what motivates you then I hope you never hear that Sean hates eating shit.
I also have been a Salon Premium member since the beginning and also do sometimes listen to Hannity. Here is my Hannity story from Dec. 19.

No story, but your story confirms the Inverse Idiocy Effect. The one accomplishment of the Bush years was to make plain to ordinary people that they could not afford to ignore politics, and could not even afford to ignore economics.
OK, John, you had me worried for a minute there, I thought we'd lost you! :)
The only Hannity connection I have is that I learned, through Facebook, that my husband's 17 YO grandson is a fan of his. Since then I've been trying to think of what books to send the young man anonymously to give him a balanced view of the world. Please PM any valid suggestions.
Very happy to discover that Persons of Variously Misguided Social Persuasions can be of some use to a gentleman of your caliber. We might never have been exposed to your brilliant musings had it not been for the deplorable M. Hannity!
