In the old days looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend often meant hanging out at any number of bars and hoping you'd meet the person of your dreams. There was always a chance that the person you thought was the man or woman of your dreams turns out to be a nightmare waiting to happen, as in Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

Below: old school bar and bartender.

It seems clear to me that Apple knew all along that it's Genius Bars would turn out to be just more than a place to take your broken iPod or MacBook. Just take a look at what is the new bar scene for the 21st Century and consider the positive attributes of this new bar scene:
- see your possible new mate under pleasant, bright lighting and not in an smoky environment of minimal lighting while under the influence of alcohol
- meet other geeks, not just 0ther alcoholics
- zero in on people with enough money to own the latest 17" MacBook Pro
- discuss the latest iTunes additions and compare playlists
- talk about the worst computer crash you ever had
. . . I could go on and on, but I imagine you get the idea!
So have a look at some randomly selected Genius Bar photos and see where the best place to meet your new significant other may just be for you!

(Hehehe)
Makes ya wonder when you're looking at the genesis of a whole new way of dating and all you notice is the thong.
Wonder which bar I belong in?
:)
Sigh. That's my dream. A cute geeky man. With glasses. Nothing better.
Will the Genius Bar become the 'it' place? This calls for more research!
And there is PLENTY of time to hear at least half of someone's life story; it almost counts as a first date. Get your laptop fixed and pick up a hottie, take him/her home, tape the sex on your HD video camera and edit the whole thing on your MacBook! (I suggest using the old iMovie if you don't have Final Cut.)
My one suggestion to Apple about the Genius Bar--have an espresso bar right next to it. They would make a killing.
fireeyes24, as you'll notice a number of others have mentioned some positive experiences after you were the first to comment and I imagine there are a lot more interesting stories out there.
My Dear Monsieur Chariot ~ I didn't even consider the classes that are offered and I agree that this is another great possibility. The bright lighting seems to be an issue with many and the Apple store that I visit the most has a lot of indirect lighting that isn't harsh, but it is certainly not like "mood lighting" that one normally associates with restaurants and bars.
Kent, at first glance it wouldn't seem like an obvious place to meet, but sometimes we get lucky in situations and just happen the meet someone who is very appealing on many levels.
grif82600, if only I could disguise myself to look like your daughter I could take my old iBook to the store and have some free work performed on it!
Mr. Mustard, great to see that we can count you among the many Mac owners here!
hatchetface, you must have been in some deluxe OTB betting parlors, the only one I've ever seen was about as attractive as a subway ticket office.
Ardee, you are definitely on the 'same page' as I am when it comes to Macs and design!
Duaneart, an iPod it what got this post started as I made two trips over the weekend due to my son's iPod being broken and spent a bit of time in the store.
Mr. E, it's clear that thongs can be found in both types of bars, so you might want to pick the Genius Bar with it's brighter lighting to see the thongs better!
odetteroulette, it's clear that the Genius Bar is the place for you!
Gonzoid, interesting story about the former president of an auto supply company. I will say that everyone I have dealt with is professional and knows what they are talking about. One sales person spent at least 30 minutes showing me the latest music software even though I came into buy something else. He was well versed in many areas of the Mac and clearly enjoyed his job.
Chris, an excellent formula you have there for one stop shopping at the Apple Store--from finding the date to the equipment for your own illicit home movies! An espresso bar sounds like a perfect add-on and nice place to transition from the store to another place to keep the conversations flowing.
