How about a tree encased in a glass pyramid, a la I.M. Pei? Great sketches! For a look at some real treehouses that have inspired designs, check these out in Chester County, PA's Longwood Gardens: http://www.longwoodgardens.org/NaturesCastles.html
Smithery, thanks for that link--those are some beautiful treehouses that they have built! They say let your inner child come out to play in these. I would say that even my inner adult would enjoy these structures at Longwood Gardens. The I.M. Pei glass pyramids would be quite elegant. Thanks for the comment!
OEsheepdog, that's a great line! Thank you for that!
Rita, each of the three are certainly more spacious than the simpler version that my brother built many years ago.
Steve, that book you mention on outhouses sounds very inventive and I'll bet it's quite amusing!
AtHomePilgrim, thank you!
Ardee, as one who has been a student of architecture and worked in this area I figured these designs were something that you could relate to!
Stacey, I appreciate the kind thoughts about these being cover worthy candidates! I was also amused by your comment over at DesignatedKnitter's post with the mention of the designated designanator.
Lea, I'll keep Calavera in mind for Volume 2. Thank you!
Nelly, interestingly enough, I was very close to doing Mies as one of the treehouse designs--although your idea of bare branches and no foliage did not occur to me. That would have been the perfect match for the design.
C.K. Dexter Haven, Greene & Greene is another great idea. Greene & Greene against the green. Thank you!
Mr. Web Aficiionado, thanKKs!!
Karin, I appreciate that! Thank you!
Stellaa, Gaudi is another super idea. His treehouse design would certainly juxtapose organically with the tree!
Choreville, true, but I think the point of this is to take a stand against anyone using religious scripture as justification for violence of intolerance. There are spiritual traditions in all of the major religions that interpret the more disturbing parts of the scriptures as stories, not literal instruction on how to live. And I believe those traditions remain far stronger and more popular than the extremists who use scriptures for their own purposes.
Don't want to vote - need a cozy place for me and my books, cat, and blankey. Show me somethin.' Do like the Gehry and Wright. Don't recall what I ever liked about Johnson. E

Dare I say cover worthy "cartooning?"

Chuck, my kind of architecture, too!
