Many thanks to my friend Mission for the suggestion that I cover the oil spill in a cartoon this week!

I really like well-done cartoons (like this one) about the oil spill, because they can pack so much into a simple image.
What a grand cartoon! Love it!! RATED with flair or something!! :)
And the sharks have already started to attack. We will see what the Old Man has when he gets to shore (if he ever does.) R-
Caroline, Jeanette, Tink, Graham, Chuck, and Dave ~ thanks very much for the great comments and positive feedback!!
You hit the mark
This is a classic! Thanks~
I second the comments already given and add a rate up top. Well done.
Great cartoon! This is an eco-tragedy that exceeds the gloom of any classical drama. Thanks.
Great job, designanator! But sad.
funny...in a sad sort of way.
TY, TY, TY John. This is wonderful indeed here from my perspective.
Excellent cartoon.....
Excellent, yet sadder than even Hemingway could make it. Next week You could draw nooses made from the useless oil booms for the BP execs.
brilliant! one must laugh at it to keep from crying...
Marlene, Scanner, Stacey, INKgag, AtHomePilgrim, Scarlett, Linda, Steve, Suzanne, Michael, Indra, and Phil ~ thank you all for your wonderful comments and thanks again, Suzanne, for your suggestion to focus on the oil spill this week!
Brilliant! (Why do I always forget you make cartoons and act surprised?)
Funny! Sad. Awesome!
Could go all out and do a sequel to the Ryme of the Ancient Mariner....

And through the drifts the snowy clifts
Did send a dismal sheen:
Nor shapes of men nor beasts we ken -
The oil was all between.

The oil was here, the oil was there,
The oil was all around:
It oozed and slimed, and slid and smothered,
All fish and fowl in a swound!

:-) okay...never really got into poetry...but your cartoon nails it!
Rated!!
How about 'Oily Yeller'? Or 'Robinson Crude Oil'? Maybe 'The DaVinci Crude'?
OH! We could have FUN with this one!
Another classic my friend!

John Donne
Meditation 17
Devotions upon Emergent Occasions

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee..."
this is pure genius
I got another one (Maybe I should get Corel Draw, or whatever, and make my own Cartoons? Sure as heck can't draw any other way....)
"The Catcher in the Riser"
Meh. It needs more panels. Cuz right now, as is, it doesn't really make sense. It's sorta like a grown-up version of Family Circus-- not quite Far Side quality.

Try this: a close up of the boat, and a marlin tied to the boat, but instead of sharks biting off parts of the marlin you have Tony Hayward. Or a shark that looks like Tony Hayward? It's a surreal metaphor, but it's also very real. Because Tony Hayward is a corporate shark that doesn't want to harm old fishermermen, but he can't help it because he's a fucking animal.
Alison, Nelly, Jim, Gary, Sidik, Somyr, and CjackbOnOpen ~ thanks for your great comments!

Nelly, that's a great sequel to the Ancient Mariner!

Jim, you certainly came up with some clever alternative titles!

Gary, thanks for remembering that wonderful passage!

CjackbOnOpen, naturally this could be expanded into panels, but I tend to like the focus on a single panel. You have some clever additions to the story!
Slick...very slick. ;)
OEsheepdog ~ thank you!
