Party photos from last night's Salon Media Group NYC meet-up

Rate: 45 Flag

Word came on November 30th in the way of a letter from Salon's CEO, David Talbot, about the Salon.com meet-up on December 7th.

I had a schedule conflict but my wife who is a Salon Core Member along with moi went ahead to RSVP.

It was a rainy and chilly night in the city but my wife made it over to the west side to Stitch where the party was being held. Below are the photos she took last night of the fun party.

Many thanks to Salon for hosting the festive party and it looked like everyone had a great time last night. I hope to be there next year if Salon hosts another meet-up!

Thanks for sharing your photos and it looks like a fun time was had by all. I was worried about you as I noted all those actual switches on the way in to the place. Was not sure what kind of establishment that was!
Nobody used any of those switches on Zerry or Emily?

Didn't look like a very big crowd...

Any word on spam-fighters?
thanks for doing this.
I am sure the blog will be a best seller today..:)
HUGGGGGGGGG
Thanks for sharing. Not too many people there.
Terrific photos. Interesting looking room.

Cranky doesn't look very cranky at all. He looks quite sociable.
Oh man would I love to get that Investigative journalist's ear.

This was so trippy. I hope the OSers were treated well. I love it that Cranky, it seems, does not dress up for such occassions.

Great reporting as usual, Designator.
Thanks for posting these photos. Stitch looks like a cool place for a party. Wish I could have been there to stir up some feathers for poetry on OS.
rated with love
Thanks for the visit, John:

You did a fine job as the "shooter." (Dark rooms are a punishment from god for the photographer. )Cranky will have to change his name to "Uncle Grinny."
I love seeing you all. The t-shirt is wonderful. The place looks very hip. Next year... ~r
Loved these dear!! Looks like fun was had.
No photos of the photographer! Otherwise, great post! Wish we could all be New Yorkers on nights like that.
Great photos. I loved going up the stairs with you. Thank you!
Emily indeed looks to be a sweetie. We'll see what Cranky has to say about that. I think Tink's star may be rising.
So, were Nikki, Cranky and Greg the only OSers there? (Does your wife write here at all, or was she just standing in for you for the evening?)
Thanks for sharing the pictures!

designanator! I did not know that was you taking pictures! Hi! Good grief. I would have given you a hug or a handshake or something. This whole real name thing is problematic.

I have to say: in the Cranky, Emily, and Greg photo, the lovely young FIT sophmore on the right is my daughter Rocky (Roxanne).
Excellent! Real life pictures are stories on to themselves.

Kerry looks like Bob Hope. And Nikki and Emily are (to quote Freaky Troll)

Hawt!
Thank God there's a TINK-PAC ready to go! Here's my millions!

Thanks for this! r.
Great pics, and I love the Tink t-shirt. Wait a minute. How do you become a core member? Me thinks my invite got lost in the mail. Great photos D!
cool t shirt...and the rest.
Emily looks a trifle haggard and harried. Very chic purse tho.
O wait. That was your wife. I guess it is obvious I vainly scrolled to the pictures without reading the intro. Well, a hug to you both!
The only other OSer there was Jeremiah Horrigan. Since Jeremiah is a reporter, he and Justin Elliott were trading war stories.

It was a very rainy night, which may have kept some people there. There were hors d'oeuvres (did I spell that right) and a cash bar.

Fernsy, at my age, I don't dress up for anything except weddings and funerals. (I did change out of my sweatshirt before going to the party.)
I meant "kept some people away."
I was going to inquire after the horse-doovers. They look quite bulky. What did they consist of?
Hope we can do more of these -- and in many varied locations. But was great to see/meet you all last night. Open draws a cool crowd.

("Bob Hope" -- what the. . . ?)

xo,
KL
Thanks for the photos! Love the Tink T!
Waah. I wanted to be there so badly. It was just too far to drive on a weeknight.
Seconding Kerry -- Great talking to everyone last night! And I look forward to chatting with other OS-ers at future meetups.
Didn't know there was a meet up, wish I could have attended. Love the Tinkerer for President T-shirt!
Great to meet your lovely wife, John. It was a miserable evening outside but inside all was bright, if not calm ;-)
Hee he hee feels like i was there to now. Thanks for sharing ...Nothing like images from a party you would have liked to been invited to.
Ty 4 sharing these with us. It looks like a good time was had by all. R
Btw, is that Tink spraying the Christmas Tree with lemonade?
Nice T shirt! We could for+sale those in the OS gift shop, and put the proceeds towards ending spam in our lifetime. If Leepin Larry modeled it, I'd buy three!
Ooops, just realized I wasn't invited because I'm not a "core" member. How do you qualify for that?
Production crews use those stairs to shoot murder scenes, don't they? Nice photos. I'm glad to hear everyone had a fine time.
Waaah! Why don't I live in NYC anymore? And where can I order one of those Tink-shirts?
The next time you want to have a party Kerry you ought to invite me. If you ask nice I just may come. I will bring the girls (check my daughters facebook fool) and the drugs. You supply the rest!
Several of these photos have also been added to Salon's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150408279271519.352901.120680396518&type=1
More than any year and a half old book by some guy from some think tank or a free subscription to Chilean Wine Ponce, the reward of joining Salon Premium turns out to be this. You got to mingle with really cool, smart people. Thanks for sharing the ambience of it all.
Love this collection John! Great to see our good friends mingling and having good times. A fine looking crowd and no doubt the most interesting group of folks in NY!! ox
Thanks for sharing this, John. I've been away for a while and didn't even know about an OS party. Who knows? Montreal (or Wilmington, DE) are not that far from NY.

R♥
John,

What great photos! Thanks for posting this.
thanks for posting this
will Tinker be selling those T-shirts?
Wow, the stars were shining brightly in NYC! What a shame you couldn't go, John, but glad your better half could!
Kind of you to share these because, of course, everyone likes to see "real life" images. Kerry looks much younger in real life than in his avatar ...

I'm confused on the switches/stitches connection, if there is one ...
Damn fine shirt there!!! That design, I guess, is no longer available at my Zazzle store!!! THE FIENDS!!

(Tink's store! ---- > http://www.zazzle.com/tinkerertink69 )

Great photos!!! (I sooooo snagged the ones of Ed I Tor holding my shirt!! God, I was such an awesome shirt designer in 2010!!! ~WEEPS~) Rated too!! No. 40!!! :D

Sounds like it was a lots of fun. I tried to show up but this fellow kept chasing me away with a broom!! Piddle on one Christmas tree(why do you guys put them up for if ya don't want the cat to piddle on them?!) and you're marked for life!! ~:(

:D
I FOUND THE SHIRT!! Here's where you can buy your very own Tink for Warlord T-shirt!! All proceeds go to Help The Tink buy Meds....

TINK FOR WARLORD!

Wooo!!
Thanks John & Mrs. designanator for the great pics.
D: Thanks for the fotos and for keeping me anonymous. It took me two passes to see myself as others see me. I was not impressed.

Speaking of anonymity: I didn't know you or your wife were there. Did you come as Mr. & Mrs. Designanator?

I hope to get a second crack at your secret identities the next time we gather.

Cheers -
This looks so cool. And I am so jealous!

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I love Emily and the Tink t-shirt especially.
Good pics of the bash, designanator! I'm sorry I was stuck here on the west edge and missed it.

Hey! Maybe next time Larry and Zerry will come with Kerry! Then for sure I'll be there. :)

~waving from the coyote canyon~
wow, emily is sure a cutie & she cleans up nicely. emily I highly suggest you switch avs for one above :p
I tried to comment yesterday.
The comment no go anywhere.
Everyday I groan, moan, spiel,
and miss the old day dancehall.
`
I met Nikki Stern, Joan H.,
bluestocking babe, and a few
others in DC. We danced too.

Blue Stocking Babe sang `Blues.
It was in Georgetown @ Saloon.
Honest. Nikki Stern dances too.

Back in the day ... we danced,
stepped on toes, yawned post-
barroom beer-hops ... and off-
to bed all alone. I smiled `gin.
Nikki Stern act gentle as lamb.
`
I hope the 'lil square box stays away.
When a square is there `no comment.
Maybe I just no understand gadgets.
I guess we can blame the postman?
It takes tend days to get mail? huh?
I'll ask the nice Postmaster Genera.
Maybe invites are lost at seashore.
Thanks everybody for your great comments! I am really touched by all of the outpouring of positive thoughts about the NYC meet-up and post! I have been having trouble leaving comments today and hope this time it works.
@Gary, there was some problem with the flash not firing right and we lost about 15 photos, but for many of the shots angling the flash at a 45 degree angle upwards did the trick. I have had problems over the years getting the lighting just right with just one flash.

@Myriad, while my wife does not blog on OS she reads lots of posts, plus she has been a Premium member of Salon and an avid reader for as long as I have been.

@Nikki, my wife really enjoyed meeting and talking with you as well as all of the other OS and Salon people!

@Liam, thanks for the link! We had been asked if the photos could be used on FB and said yes. Your link was a great direct route to the page.

@Jeremiah, did we get you in any of the distant group shots? As mentioned above we lost about 15 photos when the flash did not fire in time for the shutter and you may have been in some of those lost photos. Looking forward to meeting you in the future.
These comments are having their own party!
It's great to see these photos and put faces with names. Looks like a wonderful group and a good evening. Sometimes I wished I lived a little closer to NYC and Philadelphia… Also, I am so new to this, I have no idea what a "Core Member" is… Is that a founding (at the start-up) member? I'll go see if I can find out...
