Happy 100th Birthday Grand Central Station!!!

Rate: 12 Flag

February 1st  marks the 100th anniversary of the current Grand Central Station and for a week I've seen metro area papers and news outlets already talking about this event.

Over the past few years I've had photo essays that included Grand Central and it was also the location of the 2nd OS anniversary in April, 2010 that I attended along with Mary Koch and OESheepdog.

So, here's another look at the past photoessays showing the station and a happy birthday to one of my favorite railroad terminals!

One of my favorite places in New York, and one of my favorite to photograph as well. Beautiful photographs, love the bonus one of Sheepie. ~r
I wonder how many movies were made there? Such an iconic place. Great pcitures, John.
Love the photos. Though I don't frequent GCS, I love our 30th St Station here in Philadelphia. Both are full of both history and charm. Thanks for your view.
You brought back some cool memories, D. Kudos on the pics. R
Thanks for the memories and the splendid display of images...
Lovely images, wonderful memories of a place I have come into and gone out of for so many years.
Thanks for the post and the pics designanator. It's a magnificent structure and I always enjoyed its bustle during the morning rush hour. The Oyster Bar there is a great place too.
Fabulous photos, of course. I never gave Grand Central a second thought until Jackie O stepped up to save it in 1975 when it was nearly demolished. It is one of my very favorite spots in New York now and I have a great shot from this year's Santa Con. The main floor was filled with Santas!
Brings back memories for me too - childhood memories! Thanks. R
It's such a beautiful place, and I'm SO glad it didn't go the way of Penn Station. What a huge architectural loss that was! Thank you for this post and those wonderful pictures! Many happy returns, Grand Central Station!
Thanks for the photos and background. Haven't been to NYC in some time did go through GSS when I was there and thought it was an incredible building. I'll also chime in that I'm so glad this didn't go the route of Penn.
