This week, after grueling hours in the hospital and months of speculation, I learned the most disheartening news: my wife has cancer.
Now What?
Now what? This was the first, and I think might be the most important question I could ask. Now what do we need to do to solve this? Now what do I need to do make this less difficult for her?
My wife is an incredible woman. I love her completely and passionately. I truly admire her. After 7 years together, I’m as smitten as the day we met. She is also deeply courageous, profoundly devoted and iron willed. This last quality, above the rest, yields grit and determination when she truly wants something. I got lucky because, once, I was that something she wanted. In my (brief) season of doubt, she stuck by me and knew in her heart we were destined to be together.
She’s also stunning and complex and witty. My love, she’s just imperfect enough to make me feel worthy as a man. Worth her love, her devotion and her joy.
Such is our life.
