Diary of a Hopeful Starving Student

- I am delightful company!
- Once upon a time this writer was a reporter/photographer and columnist for a large weekly newspaper in New York City, worked at the Center for Publishing at N.Y.U., worked at Kirkus for one whirlwind semester and eventually was an editor at Scholastic. After two very eventful years on cable television in New York City, this writer was voted off the island.
Today this writer is a student and soon-to-be published author (all fingers and toes are crossed) living in reduced circumstances. She is ever hopeful and even though her stomach may rumble from time to time, she is usually somewhat reasonably well fed. Most importantly this writer is a recovering or former New Yorker, (recovering seems more apt), who is quite happily transplanted elsewhere. She blooms where she is planted.

This holiday season things have turned out to be decidedly merry and bright.
It took an enormous amount of effort to change course after Thanksgiving. Fortunately I found my way beyond the trail of tears in November. After much thought, lots of consideration and all the insight I could summon,… Read full post »
This year Thanksgiving drowned in tears.
That says it all. For sure and for certain.
Every so often I catch a glimpse
Of what it is like to transcend
And go beyond all we have
Right in front of us
And I know without arriving
What heaven is like
I can feel the sum total of all joy

I have just about had it with that Saint Ann. I am starting to think I may have been right about her the first time. Secretly she really may be a piece of work.
So I said the Saint Ann prayer twice recently. And where is MY man? Nowhere to be… Read full post »
Saint Ann has one wicked sense of humor. So I said the Saint Ann prayer. Not once. I said it twice. That's right. Twice, mind you. Would you like to know what happened?
I bet you would.
It turns out that Saint Ann has the same wicked sense of humor that… Read full post »
My godmother, my Aunt Terri, used to say this failsafe prayer when everything ended up the opposite of what she had hoped for where the menfolk were concerned. My Aunt Terri swore that this prayer works like a charm. So here goes.

To My Three Readers,
