I'm an illustrator in my day job, but I keep leaking with other things that need to get out. I compiled a book "Miss You, Pat: Collected Memories of NY's Bravest of the Brave, Captain Patrick J. Brown" which enables me to die knowing I did one good thing. But I have more up my sleeve!
Oh dear, I couldn't wait to click on this, and the images are blocked. Will have to wait until I get home. Rated in advance. Happy Valentine's Day, Sharon~
Videos chosen because: I am illustrating a scene from the 1920s for a children's book proposal; I LOVE Eric Burden, and got to see him at BB King's a year ago; & the Woody Allen flick "Hannah and Her Sisters" is one of my favorite valentines to NYC. I also got to see Bobby Short at the Cafe Carlyle a few years before he died. Wishing all a wonderful day--transcend Hallmark ! Spread your good hearts.
I have to admit a love for "hannah & her sisters", too. My folks were born in those long ago 1920's. Such hope tempered by the tragedy of the Great War...sexual freedom peeking out from under the Ancient Curse on Sensuality.. then...... the horror of the Depression & the Next War...
Misery loves company - I'm suffering with a bad cold too. But that won't stop me from wishing you a happy Valentine and enjoying the day with your gifts of music. Thank you, Sharon! Love, ♥
This wasn't exactly what I was expecting from the title dirndl, unless you're being subtle. Three distinct takes on the theme. I've always been a fan of the Animals, their sound and Burdon's voice. Have you ever seen the clips from the NME 1965 show? Them at their best.
I saw Bobby Short around 1990. He was great so long as he stuck to music. His stage patter put me off. One too many "jokes" about how expensive the drinks were (and they were). Patronizing and smarmy. By the last one I felt like reminding him he could always take a pay cut to keep the prices down.
As for that version by The Five Swell Guys, I’d really really have to be in love with someone who really really loved it before it would take.
Sharon: I Love Eric Burdon too. Can we love him together? Well, his voice at least; like at 16 when he sang House Of The Rising Sun. That would be my opus to sing that and give it what he gave then (wit ha female voice of course) I'm still wondering if you are really in love again. I hope so!!

And thanks so much for all 3 vids, loved each and am also a big fan of "Hannah." And lucky you that you got to see Bobby Short.
