Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

The fact of separation brings out quirks
In people, that may turn them into jerks.
But later on, when things have settled down,
The urge to shave your head, or paint the town
Recedes, and life becomes a little clearer.
And then of course, you're looking in the mirror.
A small but chronic lateness with The Check
Invites an inquisition in the wreck
Your life has now become.  A normal slice
Of daily this or that becomes a vice
Requiring introspection.  Do you drink?
The scary music starts.  Do people think
That you've become an alcoholic ruin?
(Are fewer people asking how you're doin'?)
Or is your downfall simpler -- do you smoke?
Do you continue, even though you're broke?
Will all these little bits of recreation
Prevent your children's college education?
My pricey little habit isn't much
Compared to others -- still, it's such a crutch
That I can't think of coming back from town
Without my balance sheet two dollars down.
It isn't sex, I don't smoke cigarettes,
I don't exhaust my purse with off-track bets,
I don't use chocolate, gum, or English toffee.
But I can't do without my Starbucks coffee.

At the core in this life, the guilt, at the core.
Good writing. Glad I found your blog today.
And here I am, celebrating your year.
