...Iambic pentameter is for the ear. Read it out loud.

Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

Some days are like that. :)
I've had a week so much like that
Resolve is strong but mood is flat.
Is this that thing that others mock;
a crappy case of writer's block?
Good night, Bard. Looking forward to tomorrow. Believe it or not, I rated this poem!
Sometimes "less is just more"
Wow, everyone! I would call this, in a word, supportive. I simply couldn't do anything at all last night... and 5 people commented on a single couplet? You guys are too wonderful for words.

The truth is, the first line took about 1 hour 50 minutes to write. The second line took another ten (believe it or not, I had scansion problems).

sweetfeet, thank you for your early support (7 minutes after the post!) and encouragement.

Linnnn - a quatrain in iambic TETrameter! Now that's a challenge. I find the line too short for comfort -- no elbow room. (Shakespeare used this in exactly ONE of his sonnets , #145 (I looked it up)). You are raising the bar. Please keep coming by!

Renatta - still ANOTHER message of support, and your spelling makes it very personal. I knew you loved words. Now I see that you love letters, as well.

dlv - Great to see you again. I owe you some reading. You were one of three to rate (rated for... honesty?!)

tril - This particular "less" certainly salved my conscience, and allowed me to get to bed guilt-free. Not a bad score for an admitted failure. Thanks for putting an elegant, time-honored face on it.

To everyone who commented, rated, or just drove by: thank you, so much. I remain your humble servant.
