Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

Rate: 5 Flag

Well I um, this is gonna, you know... well,
I really... so there's not that much to tell.
I sent her like, an email.  Sent her one.
An email.  You know.  Her.  She has a son,
You know?  Her.  Yes I, well, I thought, okay,
I mean, it's now like um... or never, eh?
I mean, I had this boss, you know?  This guy?
Long time ago.  He... like, he said um, why
Pay any mind to reasons that you shouldn't?
Do something?  They don't count.  And then he wouldn't.
He didn't.  So me too.  Me neither!  So...
Well, yeah.  I did.  Um, ask her.  Could we go,
Like, say, to a museum Friday night?
You know?  Picasso.  Ladies of the night?
(Oh no. Oh god...) I mean of Avignon!!!
...I couldn't do this on the telephone.
Oh man.  So this is being struck by cupid.
I hope she doesn't think I'm really stupid.

Breathlessly awaiting her reply!! this was precious. I loved the shyness you painted with your words.
Oh man I love you !
Very well done. Very. "(Oh no. Oh god...) I mean of Avignon!!!" Ha!
But now you have to keep up posted!
Courage indeed! One step at a time. Love the way you describe the process. Caution and courage side by side. Now the wait.
Db way to go, it must be hard to put yourself out there but it is the only way.... Fingers crossed for our Bard....
Good luck, Bard!
Thank you everyone for your encouragement. Things didn't turn out exactly as hoped -- the sequel is posted. But your coming by honestly made the letdown a little easier.

trilogy, thanks for hoping. I'm glad you enjoyed, and I'm glad the language worked. Maybe next time, eh?

Kim, you too. Been there have we?

ladyslipper, thanks for reading. I'm glad you liked it.

Pilgrim, my next post keeps you um, posted. I'm really glad that line worked. I confess to poetic license - I am going to see a different painting.

anna1, thanks -- and the wait is over. This time, anyway.

rita, thanks so much for your good wishes. I do appreciate them, even if I jinxed it by talking about it so directly.

froggy, thanks for the shout-out.

By the way -- I've posted in the sandbox tonight, too. Please go by to take a look. The post is "My Favorite Story".
