Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

This late in spring, the irises I see
Seem small and prim, too timid now for pleasure;
The early ones had given guarantee
Of something soon, of some imagined treasure.
Today then, I was taken by surprise
By early ones again.  Their yard was shaded,
They'd bloomed a little late, and to my eyes,
More beautif'ly.  They'd opened, and they'd waited,
For me.  All lost in daydreams, unaware
Of anything around them -- only they,
And staring, bashfully.  They didn't care.
To them, it was a normal day in May,
To go on with their lives from where they sit.
To me, I lost my breath for just a bit.

I just lost my breath a bit, too.
"... and they'd waited/ For me." Every line here speaks to me and draws me in. I wish for you more late blossoming irises that wait, for you.
this is truly lovely
Beautiful.
Iris is my favorite.
I have two gorgeous ones right in front of me as I type
that my daughter brought home for me last night,
because she knows they are my favorite.

have you any idea how perfect the above is?
Hi all. Thanks for coming by on a Friday, with OS having been down this morning, and now everyone should be gone out of town for their holiday weekend. You are intrepid readers.

c&v, well you know, I'm glad. But I think it's because you've seen irises.

anna1, thanks. If not this season, then next.

Pavanne, thank you. And you weren't so bad with your tulips today, either.

trilogy, I will so be ready for my daughter to bring me flowers when she's grown. Sounds wonderful.

Renatta, you came along at just the right time. I was starting to have my doubts about it (that's something I do daily). Thanks for the lift.

Worked tonight till 11:30 because something happened on one of our computers. All fixed. But no museum for me today, sadly. Thanks for stopping by, as always.

Good weekend to all.
Iris, my mother's name. A keepsake verse for me.
