Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

Geology. Saturday July 3, 2010

Rate: 2 Flag

Today we went to see a hidden lake.
My son picked up some rocks along the way.
We have no quartz at home.  He had to take
As much as he could find.  To my dismay,
The back seat of the car filled up with stones.
From small to large - twelve inches round or so.
And he'd exclaim in young, excited tones,
At each discov'ry.  Twenty in a row.
But he had never seen it.  Quartz.  It's new.
His eyes are always out collecting data.
This novel rock required great review;
At home, it's diabase and sandstone strata.
Tomorrow we'll transport these special rocks.
My car is just a big collector's box.

The unexpected carriers we become and provide for childhood treasures. I think I keep coming back again and again with this thought but I am so moved by the love I hear, day by day, moment by moment, as you find your way forward for yourself and with your children. Lovely, all of these.
