Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

She dressed in dotted swiss, or polka dot,
In white I think, or caution yellow hue.
And somehow fall, and crisp, and sans-culotte
Commingled in a wish long overdue
Where dots, all left to heed their own devices,
All vaporous, and hov'ring at the stair,
Each single wisp, each particle entices
To dizzines, to yearn, to wish, to dare.
The night conspired to darkness, but for light
From stars, and distant galaxies aloft.
And soon again, she drifted out of sight,
Still veiled in comfort, radiant and soft,
And trailing gifts behind her, undeterred
That someone might be hearing ev'ry word.

Delightful. Lovely. Wistful.
"Commingled in a wish long overdue ...." Wisps and hints and keenest eye and one who is hearing to every word. I feel wonderfully wooed by the romance here.
exquisite description and oh such loveliness. many thanks R
She's elusive, it seems.
It must be hard
To be a bard
Every single day.
Without a wife
Ain't got no strife
So what is there to say?
each particle entices~
very close and very far away, something out of nothing. I love it.
I really like this. It reminded me of a blue dotted swiss full skirted dress I made myself one spring.
You continue to amaze me, Bard. The opening image here is vivid. The waters run deep with that last line, however. I will be revisiting this one.
loved this, loved this
I am always in awe.
Hi all. Thank you all for eavesdropping! This is all coming from an unfamiliar well, and the security of familiar readers is, believe it or not, a great comfort.

Lea, it's always nice to have you pop in. Thanks for enjoying. I'm not sure where all this is going, but it's great to have you along for the ride.

Veronica, thanks so much. Please keep coming by, these late ones are surprising me a little. I'm glad you liked this one.

anna1, yes indeed, that would be YOU hearing every word, no? You have been so very faithful for a very long time.

Muse, thank you, thank you. Exquisite is a strong adjective; I will proudly put it in my collection.

Pilgrim, aha... yes indeed. Very, very hard to keep up with.

Leon, HA! You know, at a certain point this year, I began to worry about exactly that. But so far, so good.

catch-22, very far away indeed. I'm glad you enjoyed. There's more coming, I think.

pastvoices, you know I only learned of dotted swiss a few weeks ago. Then I realized I'd been seeing it for years. I'm glad Google was there when I needed it.

Brassawe, I wish I could help you puzzle it all out, but I might have to revert to prose, of which I'm terrified. I'm a trifle puzzled myself, but my subject is a little mysterious, so I'll just go with it.

vanessa, "awe" is a very strong word, and when people say things like that, I get scared and flee to the land of light verse for a few days. So don't be awed! Not for now, anyway. I want to mine this new vein for a while and it's dusty, sweaty work.

Thanks everyone, deeply, and nightly.

Your servant.
