Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

It's funny.  All the times I've seen your voice,
And honestly, I'm getting ev'ry word,
I don't know if I've ever made the choice
To listen, just.  But ev'rything I've heard
Has turned to grist.  I take it in, and then
It changes form.  Its essence may be there,
The molecules of syllables, but when
It happens, when its luster touches air,
The urge to say comes over all I hear.
Your words come down like leaves, in yellow, red,
And hope; they scatter pleasure, and endear,
But leave behind the thing you might have said.
I'll stop for now, tonight, so I can see,
No matter what the meaning there could be,
The prettiness of what you said to me.

Ahhhhhhhhh: "...seen your voice..."

Are you SURE that you're not Shakespeare?
Another ribon of beauty Bard. You seem to be such a kind, careful spirit.
I mean ribbon, but you probably knew that
The "prettiness" of what YOU said Bard.
its luster touches air~
sounds (looks) like improvement on something already wonderful.
"comes over"--now that was perfection
Stopping here just to listen and to see.
Sometimes the best remain anonymous... really good, this one~
Very pretty indeed.~r
"Your words come down like leaves, in yellow, red,
And hope; "

Now that's beautiful!
I love your anticipation of meaning in favor of first experiencing/i> the words in the beauty that surrounds you. ~R
...ahhh the swirling mosaic of colored words. Thanks for placing us squarely in the heart of it all. So fine! r
This is.... how can I describe it? ... velvety, buttery, smooth, so rich.
"...the molecules of syllables... when its luster touches air..." Stunning!
R
I love how you can make me visualize the microscopic life of everyday things. rated
This is beautiful, DB.
You've topped Shakespeare--by one line. Does Guinness know?
No words come to my lips save the ones all ready written. ~R
DB, I sit with this and ...well ... it just takes my breath away. All the times I've seen your voice and the molecules of syllables and ... so I can see ... the prettiness of what you said to me and ... well, just everything... Beautiful!
Thank you so much, everyone. I don't know about you, but the weather here was gorgeous today... so why so many people on OS? hm? I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, to wit:

mhold - you know, there were a couple of years when I was reading the complete poems of... let's see, Hardy, Dickinson, Millay, Frost... and then I thought ok, I'll tackle Shakespeare's sonnets. There's only 150 or so. It took me two years, I think. I am not he. And you, milady, are a flatterer.

heidibeth - had you not pointed out the typo, I wuld have missed it. As for being kind and careful, I hope that I have improved with age.

trilogy - ah, but I'm not the only one on earth who loves words now, eh? But thanks. To one of my very first, and most consistent, readers.

catch - your new avatar! It is...mysterious? Intriguing? As for improving on something wonderful, hm. I do love words, and I do love people who love them too.

Veronica - thanks. It was fun to do, too.

scupper - thanks. It just came over me (kidding). Perfection? Hyperbole. But appreciated.

anna1 - thanks. Stay and look as long as you like. You are always welcome here.

Inverted - aha. sometimes, sometimes. I'm glad you liked it.

Joan - thank you. That merits repeating: Thank you.

Midwest - so have been the leaves raining down all season. Thank you.

Fusun - that was gorgeous. Can I use that? (Wait, I have to check the meter...)

vanessa - yes well you know, I'm sighing too, a bit.

Muse - thank you for placing your*self* into the heart of it all, by coming by to read.

Pavanne - thx(!)

Unbreakable - those are very welcome adjectives. Thank you so much. Please keep coming by.

sweetfeet - ;-)

Caroline - in the city where you live, the microscopic gets short shrift. I wasn't so good at it, when I lived there. I don't know if it's age, or location. But thank you.

froggy - thank you. It's nice to see your avatar again, I missed it.

Leon - I'm going to be in their next book. Beside the guy who can pull his ears over his head.

pastvoices - but thank you for coming by! And thanks for just letting me know that you were here.

Kate - I am so glad that you liked it, and as always, I am so happy to see you here. Thanks for picking out phrases, they did take a beastly long time to write.

Thanks everyone. You all complete this whole process for me, by simply reading. On the later nights, it helps me drag out the words that are reluctant. Thank you so much.
