Bio
While the ashes of marriage #2 were cooling, I began a journal here in verse, to keep myself out of trouble. So far so good, and one day at a time. I took a hiatus this past January, and I missed it terribly. Writing daily had changed the way I think - not my opinions, but the process of thinking itself. So here I am back again, and hungry. I began with three rules: (1) Iambic pentameter, (2) Perfect rhyme, and (3) It had to be true (no hyperbole). I hereby amend rule number 3: If I'm writing about myself, yes, it has to be true. But it doesn't, if I want to tell a story.

Macy's. Wednesday Nov 24, 2010

Rate: 11 Flag

We saw balloons, of devastating height,
And held to earth by ropes, and bags of sand,
Face down on asphalt, sleeping through the night
Before the drums kick off the op'ning band.
And then we all went home.  The kids.  And I.
Tomorrow the parade will pass me by.

This makes me sad for you. Holidays are the worst part! Have a blessed Thanksgiving and I will think of you.
Thinking of you today~r
thinking of you, indeed
Beautiful, again. This body of work is really something.
Yet, I think, that if not for you, there would be no parade at all. Much love to you today, Bard.
happy t-giving, DB. i love this.
the first three lines, especially:

...
I'm glad you brought your magic to the Macy's parade. rated
What a sweet and sad poem of the day.
rated with love
To my mind and heart, the rhythm of your poem initially resonated the excitement and joy of the children, of family togetherness ... and then, bit by bit, echoed regret, surrender and despondency.

DB I am sorry. Holidays without the children must be very, very difficult for you right now. Take care.
Happy Thanksgiving, DB. Hang in there.

As always, you even make sadness beautiful.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I saw this parade live, some 20 years ago, with my first wife and her niece. We took a seat in the snow, on some aluminum bleachers on Central Park West. Over the course of the next few hours, there was probably a parade. I don't remember it. The only thing I can remember from that day is how cold I was.

Seeing the balloons last night took something like 80-90 minutes. It was well worth the trip, and Macy's and New York City seem to be handling the crowd control well.

pastvoices, thank you, but not so very sad. This Thanksgiving, and this year, have been a great improvement over last. Thanks for your wishes.

Joan, same to you, to husband, and to daughter. Happy Thanksgiving.

vanessa, and to you, husband, and three kids. You know, I hate to ask because it sounds so provincial... do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Puerto Rico?

Ken, thank you for calling it a body of work. I'm not there myself, yet - to me it's still one day at a time. Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for reading.

anna1, you overestimate me, but it's a pleasure each night to pretend, just for a minute, that I deserve it. Thank you for your continued reading and responding. Happy Thanksgiving.

cheap, writing is so much easier when I just get to write what I see. I'm glad it delivered. Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for coming by (I will never charge you a dime).

Caroline, I should have told you I was coming. Perhaps you were there. Next time I'll send a note first. I hope your Thanksgiving was as magical as your "Living in the Moment" post.

Romantic, thank you for love, for reading, for responding, and just for writing poetry. Happy Thanksgiving.

Kate, thank you so much. The days are sometimes like this, with the changing of the guard. I have a few days coming up uninterrupted, and I can't wait. As for you: I know you don't celebrate American Thanksgiving, but I'll wish you a happy one anyway. Eat well, look around at those you love. And take a few cheers from your OS pals abroad.

Thank you everyone. I'm posting a little early tonight, see you in the next verse.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
froggy, you slipped in under my comment. Happy Thanksgiving. I also get to share days with them like your "School Bus Arrives" post. Maybe if I do this for another year, I can get it all down.
Thank you for the lovely sentiments ... I will look around at those I love and be very thankful for all the love and joy I have in my life.

I am so very glad to hear that you have some "uninterrupted" time coming up with your kids.

Goodnight DB and Happy Thanksgiving to you my friend.
