How Green Feels: A Meditation on Color

Rate: 6 Flag

Green conjures up different images to different people: nature, money, envy, Christmas trees. In preschool, we are taught that blue and yellow make green.  Not so simple-- besides different amounts of blue and yellow, greens contain red, black, white, and other colors.  And each shade has its own personality and feeling.

I love all greens in their infinite variety.  This is how green feels to me:

The rice paddies in Bali show the depth and variation in nature's greens.  These greens are fresh, vibrant, energizing:

It took me eight tries to make the perfect seafoam green for my kitchen walls.  (It was worth the effort.)  Soothing, calming, refreshing:

My favorite green juice is a blend of granny smith apple, celery, and ginger.  Fragrant, crisp, and a pick me up:

Invigorating Green Juice

Use a juicer to extract the juices of 1 granny smith apple, a stalk of celery, (preferably Chinese celery, which is less fibrous and incredibly fragrant), and a 1 inch piece of fresh ginger root.  Serve icy cold.

I love green! My home office is painted a grass-green, although someone once commented that it looked a little flourescent. I needed a color that soothed me but also inspired my creativity--green does the trick. If you're looking for another great paint color in the seafoam green family look at Benjamin Moore's turquoise mist (I swear it's green and not blue).
WSFTCat: Thanks for the fun inspiration. The posts have been fantastically varied.

Karin: The rice paddy green looks fluorescent, too, doesn't it? Thanks for suggesting yet another seafoam...
Nice! A fresh perspective on green.
Another lover of greens! Lovely pictures
