Guest Post: Banana + Mexican Chocolate for Valentine's Day

Rate: 9 Flag

A Valentine Surprise from My Daughter

This is my seven year old daughter's first Salon Kitchen Challenge entry. She created and wrote the recipe, cooked, plated, and photographed it, and served it as a Valentine's Day surprise with a smile to us, her adoring and proud parents.

I interviewed the chef:

Me:

What did you make?

7:

Chocolate banana fudge with bananas to dip in it.

Me:

How did you get this idea?

7:

I took a class called Household Math and Kitchen Chemistry when I put things together and did science.

Me:

What is the recipe?

7:

One small (bite-size) Hershey bar, two orange Sweethearts, four teaspoons of Mexican hot chocolate powder, and two bananas.  Melt it for one minute in the microwave, and mix it all together.  When you think it is ready, cut bananas into bite-size pieces, take skewers and enjoy!

Me:

Who did you make this for?

7:

I made it for my family for Valentine's Day.  It was very special and I made it by myself.

Thank you Linda for bringing us this fabulous chef on what must have been very short notice, being Valentine's Day and all. She has whipped up a truly delectable treat and the photograph does it justice!
She is also cute as a button. How lucky you are to have such talent living right there in your own home! _r
Chocolate and bananas...oh yeah. Omigod, this is wonderful - and the Chef is adorable! YUM! RATED!
Joan, Bonnie, and M: thanks for the support for my little chef. It was a great Valentine's surprise.
I'm impressed. Very good luck to her.
Well, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, as we say around here. Yummy recipe, lovely photograph. I think the level of competition has gotten a bit higher...
Love it! The self-portrait is frame-worthy. :) Hopefully we'll have more posts from her in the future.
I LOVE this post! Simply, my favorite of the day. Please pass this along to your daugther.
Kathy, Lucy, Lisa, and PattyJane: thanks for your support. She's been very excited to see her comments.
She's a great chef and a wonderful photographer! Hats off, and I can't wait to see what she cooks up next. Yum!
"Bravo!" to our newest, young chef! And what a role model she has!! Please give her my compliments!! (Too cute!)
I think we'll see many more recipes from this budding chef!
Thank you Rebecca, JulieShanti and scupper. She was so excited, and it was fun to let her participate (but just this once!)
This is very sweet and looks yummy, unlike my son's creations, which usually look very scientific and possibly unhealthful. I love the photos.
Lucy: thanks for stopping by. Scientific is interesting- he might like Alton Brown. As for the dish, it was tasty, but I am not sure how healthful. She loves photography, especially self-portraits :)
