Spring Along the Embarcadero, San Francisco

Rate: 10 Flag

San Francisco Bay Bridge by Linda Shiue

Yesterday was my daughters' last day of school and today we celebrated with one of our favorite family activities, a bike ride down the Embarcadero.  We pedaled this storied boulevard from the ultra-modern Mission Bay campus of the University of California, San Francisco to the Ferry Building, where we caught the last moments of the fabulous Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and stopped for some halfway point refueling.  (In case you're wondering what we ate: Blue Bottle for a cappuccino for my coffee-addicted husband, Miette for a spiced chocolate caramel and a toffee for the girls, Cowgirl Creamery's Milk Bar for a spiced chai tea milk for me, and Out the Door for fresh Vietnamese spring rolls for all of us to share.)  My new 4th grader had toted our vintage first generation digital camera in her flower-adorned bike basket, and stopped along the way to capture a bit of San Francisco life.  I thought her 8 year old's perspective of San Francisco was interesting, so here are a few of her photos.

Linda, your daughter shares your eye for color! What a fun day that must have been. I love the Ferry Building and all the great food within; you're so lucky to have it nearby!
Thanks for coming by, Felicia! She is very proud of her work being published on Mama's blog. Color is very easy to come by in San Francisco, so I am looking forward to her capturing more of it. And we are so, so lucky to be here, that's for sure.
Oh to be on the Embarcadero now Linda and her talented shutterbug prodigy are, or were, there!
Your posts make me want to apply to UCSF for my residency.
Sounds like a very nice day was had by all. I like the photographs taken by your young photographer, please pass my compliments on to her.

She has quite an eye! I really love the last picture.
Thanks all for your nice comments. My guest photographer is excited!
@ONL, no, a quinceanera. There were so many photo ops that day, better than we could have scripted.
Love the way your daughter sees the world! Someday, I'll do a bike & photography tour near my house, just by way of contrast. Lots of kudzu & Monster trucks.
Ha! Got here via Lucy and Stumble Upon! Thanks, Lucy! And Linda, looks like your daughter has her mother's eyes. Congrats.
i had a moment today and was wondering why i hadn't seen your avatar on my right column in a long time - so came and found this lovely post from a while ago. i love the ferry building farmer's market and go on the weekends when i'm in the city visiting my daughter and her family. your daughter did a great job taking these photos. and you hit several of our favorite spots for bites and drinks! nice essay, linda.
Thank you Candace! I have been busy lately, thanks for noticing my absence. I will have something new this week hopefully. I didn't know your daughter and family were in San Francisco. Nice to know you have traveled along the same paths and eaten some of the same food as I have!
