My new office: the "before" pictures

Rate: 3 Flag

At Gwendolyn Glover's request, I am posting the "before" pictures of my new home office. As you will see, it's definitely a work in progress. Here's the to-do list:

  • Fix the foundation
  • Repair and repaint the walls after the foundation guys leave
  • New carpet
  • Hang pictures properly

Eventually, if this job works out, we'll get new windows in the basement. We did the upstairs about five years ago but couldn't afford the basement ones at the time.

So anyway, here you go, Gwendolyn. Sorry they're such lousy quality; not sure what happened!

The view from the door:

The view from the west and north windows. Venetian blinds are not my friend, so I don't risk opening them all the way. It'll look better in spring.

My son's homework, writing, reading, and art project corner.

My old computer & desk, where I do bills, Open Salon, & personal stuff and the lamp I made when I was in high school. number threenumber four

My new desk and computer. Oh yeah, a better chair is on the list as well, so the old one will go to the old desk.

Two of my favorite pictures. My dad painted this one when I was little, and for some reason, he was going to throw it out recently. True, it's not a great work of art, but my Daddy painted it.

And this one is a Maxfield Parrish wannabe.

These are real Parrish prints that I'm considering when I redecorate. I love his work but can't afford the old prints. It's too bad the colors don't pop like they do in person.

So there you go. A view of my office as it exists today, with a small glimpse of how I want to make the space my own. Probably only two Parrish prints, but haven't decided which yet. Had to end on a pretty note instead of the work-in-progress pics. I'll update when the remodeling is done, but that's probably 3 months away.

Will you be working a job out of your home office? I'm behind on your job prospects! Looks good and inspirational.
Yes, I actually found a full-time, well-paying, home-based writing job. I'm on my second week, so still learning the ropes, but it seems like a great group of people I'm working with.
Great! Congratulations! I told a friend about odesk and she is very happy to have them as an option. Thanks for the tip!
Great! I also used textbroker and elance. Depending on how much I write, I've been making about $600 a month on textbroker. Not enough to pay the mortgage by itself, but it certainly helps.
That's awesome, dogmom. I'm always fascinated by what others' writing spaces look like.
Love the desk! Thanks for the photos. Can't wait to see the "after" photos. Isn't it wonderful to have space of your own?
