James Rocks Black Dog for the Holidays with Weasel Cameo!!!

Rate: 8 Flag

James with Sasha

OK, all you Led Heads, this one’s for you. Dog people, you’ll appreciate the title cameo by our own Black Dog. According to music legend, Led Zeppelin’s song “Black Dog,” which has nothing to do with a dog--black or otherwise, was so named because while the group was recording it, a black dog walked through the studio.

Sasha chases her tail all the time, mostly when she’s excited or neurotic about something. There’s no sound when the video starts; nothing is wrong with your computer. The sound starts after an oval fade from intro to song.

If you look closely, you’ll see a black dog sculpture on the right end of our mantel that Steve got me. It’s made from coal and he got it from the Tamarack Center on the West Virginia Turnpike. There’s also an Alaskan ulu (skinning and multi-purpose tool) on the mantel made by John Auliye, arguably one of the original mushers from the 1925 Serum Run that the Iditarod commemorates.

There’s an amusing bonus extra—an outtake--at the end. Hope this brings holiday cheer!

This will sound much better if, as soon as YouTube opens, you click “WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY” at the bottom right of the video under the volume setting. I deliberately didn't embed the video here (which would only display the normal quality version) so that you can watch it in high quality on the YouTube site.

Here it is on YouTube:

What a good looking young man! Looks like a young Jon Mayer before he got TOO weird! Great guitar licks. Jimmy Page would be proud. I would like to pound out the John Bonham off beats behind him. :-)
Rated here and there.
Peace,
Greg
This is a classic photo -- a man and his dog. Really love the guitar work, with the Weasel cameo as well. Make sure you watch the whole thing to hear the last bit of the outtake (vintage DogWoman . . .)
Thumbified!
Nothing like a guitar screaming to some Zep! Is that an Ampeg he's playing out of??? Great video! :)
James' amp is an Epiphone Valve Standard tube amp, the real deal, the old fashioned kind with actual tubes. It gives a richer sound than the newer cheaper ones. The guitar is an Epiphone "Gibson SG." Glad you enjoyed it. That's a nice compliment to James, coming from a performing guitarist!
Right on James! Nothing like tubes. Tell James I have a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier... and a Gibson Epiphone 12-string. I need to write a nice article on all this music.... too much good stuff! :):):)
The boy can play, can't he.

Sasha can be considered 1st groupie.
I'm so disappointed. My internet connection kept freezing so I couldn't watch the video all the way through. I'll try again later. From what I was able to watch, though, it seems that James is quite the guitarist. Rock on, James and Sasha!
Hands down, the dog has it! Love the Led, too. Great interface with holiday's best.
I love seeing young people who appreciate the classics. First of all, props to James for playing an SG, the quintessential rock guitar; and when it comes to amps, only tubular will do.

I also dig how he gets into the groove towards the end, keeping time with that left leg and shakin those hips a little bit. Agree with Greg - I wanted to hear some Bonzo skin pounding, too.

The Pound of Rock will solve all problems. Daga rings. Daga.

Keep rockin' James!
