Bio
Just been writing forever and I always thought I was a better writer than I am but no matter, I write. Never thought I could paint but I love it so I do. Dancing and writing and painting fill me up. Some people think my kids are the most interesting part of me, and pretty much so did I until my late sixties. Now, I'M the most interesting part. I crack myself up! And I don't care so much whether I'm a great writer or artist or dancer or not, just so I do what I need to do - which is keep on writing and painting and dancing and living. To life! is my motto.

It's a Shame, Isn't It

It's a Shame, Isn't It

It's a shame, isn't it

That it takes age to know

That the strange paths life has taken us on

That the plans we made that didn't come true

That the dreams we wove out of whole cloth

That have led us to where we are

Have been counted as failures

It's a shame, isn't it

That the millions of mistakes

That we made in raising our children and ourselves

That we cannot know what they were or what they mean

Until we’re old

Until the mistakes cannot be erased

And that we count ourselves failures

It’s a shame, isn’t it

That the events we counted as success

That the money we made

That the promotions we think we earned

That the degrees we achieved

Cannot be atoned

Cannot be changed

It’s a shame, isn’t it

That we haven’t learned by now

That whatever it is we do

That wherever we find ourselves

That is what we were meant to do and where we were meant to be

And that the joy in life comes from

Never counting successes or failures

Those last two lines are powerful. Thank you, Dolly.
I relate with this, well written.
I don't think it's a shame. If we new how it would turn out, how many of us would bother to try? The conclusion is wonderful. Gotta live in the now.
Gwen - thanks - I hope to get to one of your readings someday!

rita - thanks for coming by!

Jimmy - I think it's irony.
As warnings go, this one is mighty quiet, but exceedingly powerful.
OSW - thanks for your comment - this is why it's good to be on OS - to get such feedback. Because I didn't catch the double entendre until you pointed it out!! It's also why I'm so tickled to be writing here.
tears over here .. we DO live well ! Let it be known .. If we ever leave a legacy .. its that we loved each other well (not my words, it is from a indigo girl song)
