Bio
Married for thirty six years and the mother of the two grown children, I began writing at the age of ten. My first success was winning a poetry contest in grammar school. From that moment forward, I realized that the written word was as vital to my survival as food and air. I am presently working on two books, one of which I hope to finish before I die. A number of my poems have graced A Long Story Short, and I have been published in the Lucidity Journal. Each day inspires me...what I see, hear and experience.... if it stays in my mind, I write about it. __________________________________________ "To believe in something not yet proved and to underwrite it with our lives: It is the only way we can leave the future open." BURT REYNOLDS INSTITUTE TO HOST CONCERT BY LOCAL FAVORITE

The silky sounds of Cooper Getschal enhance listeners’ “tastes” for Leftovers

Jupiter, Fl: Calling all music fans! If you are looking for a toe tapping, smile producing, fun-filled evening, Kelly Dennehy, Executive Director of the Burt Reynolds Institute (BRIFT), suggests you head on over to BRIFT now and purchase tickets for the concert event of the summer. Saturday, August 27th, is going to be a memorable evening when singer/songwriter Cooper Getschal takes the stage.

Known as the “most under promoted, undiscovered singer of his generation,” Getschal is fond of saying that he is currently in the “57th year of a three year plan.” His eyes-wide-open view of the world and his place in it is always evident in the lyrics he lovingly crafts for the music he creates. Sometimes romantic, often funny and always truthful, Getschal’s songs will linger in your mind long after the final notes fade. He is a big fan and a friend to mega star, Burt Reynolds, and considers the Institute the perfect place to unveil his latest music offerings. Attendees can expect to hear selections ranging from blues to jazz to rock and, of course, country.

Getschal’s sense of humor is evident in the title “Cooking with Leftovers,” the first of his two new CDs. As it is filled with songs long written but not recorded, the name is both on point and clever. One of the selections Getschal included, “Most of the Time,” is a tribute to his mother, also a singer/songwriter, from whom he gets his talent. He rewrote another of her songs, now titled “Christmas Wish,” which is sure to be a holiday favorite.  One of Getschal’s newest recordings, "My Ride," focuses on the evolution of transportation -- horses to cars to spaceships -- and leaves the listener wondering what will be next. The second CD, "I'll Be Alright," is titled for the song of the same name, platinum record winner for Kenny G some years ago. Between the two albums, fans will have 22 new songs to heighten their listening pleasure.

Experienced as both a producer and a performer, Getschal takes a hands on approach whether recording his own music or working with other singer/songwriters. At his digital recording studio, he is able to offer extras, such as the benefit of his training at The Berklee College of Music, to all who request his assistance. Besides Kenny G, his music has been recorded by Johnny Mathis, Kenny Rogers, The Trammps, The Spinners, Sally Kellerman and many others.

Getschal has recently begun stepping into a different spotlight. A new “do” has focused interest on his acting abilities. Since snipping off his signature ponytail in favor of a more traditional haircut, he has been auditioning for movie roles such as a mafia boss, commanding officer and an FBI agent. He is presently working on a script for a long form music video, which he hopes to shoot this year. Additionally, he composed the music for and did the "post production audio” for the Florida Film Festival favorite, Turkles, a kid friendly movie focusing on the efforts of pre-teen campers determined to discover who is stealing protected sea turtle eggs.

With three previously released CDs under his belt --"3 Minutes From Retirement", "Reddy For The Road" and "Found"Getschal’s song catalogue contains another 40 or so songs to choose from and which allow for a change to his repertoire at a moment’s notice.

In discussing his August 27th appearance at BRIFT, Getschal said, “The concert will be a solo performance (sans his band, The Beach Boomers). When a song works with just voice and guitar, you know it's a song. When you need to cover the song up with standard band sounds, it gets harder to "hear" the actual song. I love working with my band, but this is a more intimate and engaging type of performance.”

Tickets are $20 each and are available by calling the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre at 561 743-9955. With limited seating, Executive Director Dennehy suggests calling early to reserve space. The Burt Reynolds Museum, which is home to the Institute, is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Tickets can also be purchased on site during operating hours.

The Burt Reynolds Institute and the Burt Reynolds Museum are located at 100 North U.S. Highway One, Jupiter, Florida 33477. Call now for tickets!

Coop is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. If you live in the Jupiter area and are itching for an evening of great music inside the largest celebrity museum in the nation, come on by. Order your tickets early and let me know you are attending.
Burt has his own museum? Cannonball Run? And is he OK? I haven't seen him for years.
The Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum is the largest celebrity museum in the nation. It is filled to the brim with memorabilia Mr. Reynolds has collected over more than 50 years in the entertainment industry. Specialty items -- like the canoe from Deliverance and the surrey Dolly Parton had specially made for him -- are on display as well as all his many awards. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners recently agreed to lease the Institute/Museum an acre of land in Burt Reynolds Park upon which we are going to build a permanent home for BRIFT (The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre). We will have more classrooms, better editing suites, a larger black box theater, the museum, gift shop and so much more. If you scroll through my posts, you will see lots of stories about BR. He just turned 75 and is still looking great!
