Jupiter, Fl: The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre (BRIFT) recently announced its Winter Schedule of classes. In discussing what The Institute has to offer, Executive Director Kelly Dennehy said, “New Year’s resolutions fail because, for the most part, they are boring. At BRIFT, we offer classes that not only improve but excite the spirit and the mind.”
On January 9th at 7 pm, Patty Serrano begins teaching the six week course, “Teleprompter: A Tool for the Actor and Business Professional.” If the thought of public speaking gives you the jitters, fear no more. Learning how to use a teleprompter will keep you from tripping over your feet… and your tongue. This proficiency course provides an opportunity to learn and grow comfortable with one of the most helpful tools used by actors and business professionals. Upon completion of the class, students will find themselves filled with greater confidence, especially when facing an audience. Included will be host technique, cold read preparation, walk and talk, ad lib and on the set dos and don’ts.
Another confidence building course being offered at The Institute is Improvisation Plus with Todd Vittum. If shyness is holding you back, join Todd on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. Improv Plus will help improve your sales pitch and presentation skills and may even make you the life of the party. A proven winner in helping people stay a step ahead of the competition, improvisation teaches “think quick” skills which lead to success no matter what profession is your chosen career.
If your wish for the New Year is to become a writer, The Institute can help make that dream come true. Writer/director/producer Frank Eberling brings his Screenwriting 101 class to BRIFT beginning January 10th at 7 pm. For six weeks, students will explore the fundamentals of screenwriting for today's films. The course will cover basic storytelling, an exploration of screenplay structure, plot development, character creation and dialogue as well as standard formatting rules. Emphasis will be placed on meeting ACT 1 requirements, pitching your story concept, and avoiding common rookie pitfalls.
