Born in Brooklyn, raised in L.A, college at U.C. Santa Cruz. Moved to Seattle in the early 80s and been here ever since. Beta Open Salon member. Big fan of orcas, Alabama Shakes, and sun so bright it makes your eyes hurt after the long, long rain.
Thanks all, this was fun (except for the OS headaches while posting it, couldn't save, or read any comments...yikes. Looks like it's fixed now, though). And Dragonfly - the one who looks like your kitty (aww right back atcha), is Lily, most definitely a she. Biblio, thanks, the garden is ready for a good fall cleanup but it is still nice to hang out in...also kitty proof so they can't get out, unless they figure out that they could scale the fence, shhhh...
Marsha, you're welcome any time :) (that goes for all of you!)
And Gary, thanks. When my first cat died about 8 ago, I was amazed at how empty the house was. So much presence packed into less than 20 lbs! Which reminds me, I'd better go check on them...
Take it from a dog, those catz look magnificent. And what beautiful photos too. Plus, that garden looks picture perfect for a cat (or a dog, sigh) to stretch out in, contemplate a butterfly or two...ah, Heaven. 3 Woofs.
Thanks, CCC. Tell Orion he's welcome anytime, just give me a few minutes to put the cats in the house... He might also be interested in my front yard, which has a fountain that is low to the ground and is endlessly attractive to dogs and small children. The Mother of All Water Dishes. Birds love it too...
Ah, Will, she is sending a powerful message in cat-speak. Try adding another litter box, and be sure they're both kept clean. Also, start calling her Your Highness and bring her fresh mackerel in the morning ;)
Teaser and Firecat think it is no wonder your kitties Sam and Lily were on the front page. After all they are:
1. NW Kitties 2. Have a lovely garden to be gorgeous in 3. Have a photographer who loves them, this ALWAYS helps 4. Blue eyes look dreamy under a NW sky
Teaser and Firecat live up the road in Bellingham and appreciate the choice of locale. You can see them on Susanne's blog.
Susanne - Lily was born in Seattle and Sam just outside Portland. They were both rescue kittens I found through Petfinders.com - it was love at first sight...
PF, Yes, his blithe confidence is something to behold. Hmm, maybe there's a best-seller there. A Cat's Guide to Self-Esteem, featuring chapters on Saving Face in the Wake of Disasters, Licking in Public, and of course, Always Landing on Your Feet ;)
Your kitties remind me of the my kitty before Teaser and the Firecat. Her name was Emma and she sounded siamese and looked Himalyan with an American Tabby face. She was a very large, very long haired elegant blue eyed kitty. Not particularly social, I think she had been abused, but she was with us for about 12 years and lived a queenly life. All of our kitties were Humane Society kitties, which I think makes for a bloodline that mimics our family's. My mom used to say we were "Heinz 57 Variety" and my husband too, though it sounds like he's Irish when you hear his name, McMullen.
I thought I was a dog person, but that was only because I hadn't met my current kitties, who've completely won me over, even with the litter box duty.
Emma sounds like a great cat, Susanne! And I agree, mixed breeds are the best, feline, canine, or homo sapiens. I love dogs too, but my old work schedule would never have worked for them. Now, the cats would have a thing or two to say about it ;)
Aw, thanks, Merwoman - and thanks to CCC for sending you here ;) Sam is a snowshoe kitty - cross between a Siamese and a domestic shorthair. My first cat ever was a snowshoe too, and I fell in love with the breed. They have great personalities, too. Highly recommended...thanks for stopping by!

I also would like to relax in your beautiful garden...
