Who are you?
Words are flying out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe…
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million
suns it calls me on and on across the universe.
Jai guru deva om - Lennon/McCartney

Are you male or female?
I am a woman of heart and mind – Joni Mitchell

What place do you love best?
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’s garden
In the shade
We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
 Lennon/McCartney

What do you look like?
Linger on, your pale blue eyes. – Lou Reed

What do you want to say to your best friend?
When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I’ll comfort you, I’ll take your part…
Oh when you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind…- Paul Simon

What’s your best quality?
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one. - John Lennon

What’s your worst quality

In my own little corner in my own little chair
I can be whatever I want to be - Cinderella

Where do you see yourself in one year?
Sail on silver girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine…- Paul Simon

What’s your secret?
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see ‘em bloom for me and for you
And I think to myself
what a wonderful world. -Louis Armstrong

Something you like about yourself?
I see skies of blue, clouds of white
Bright blessed days, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world. -Louis Armstrong

What does love mean to you?
Come, and talk of all the things we did today
Here, and laugh about our funny little ways
While we have a few minutes to breathe
And I know that it’s time you must leave
But darlin’ be home soon,
I couldn’t bear to wait
an extra minute if you dawdled—
My darlin’ be home soon,
it’s not just these few hours
but I’ve been waiting since I’ve toddled
For the great relief of having you to talk to. - John Sebastian

What would you say to the one who got away?
You want me to act like we’ve never kissed—
You want me to forget
And pretend we never met
Well I’ve tried, and I’ve tried, but I haven’t yet
You walk by and I fall to pieces. - Patsy Cline

What makes you angry?
War, what is it good for, absolutely nothin’ - Edwin Starr

What makes you happy?
They call him Flipper, Flipper,
Faster than lightning
No one you see
Is smarter than he
And we know Flipper
Lives in a world full of wonder
Flying there under,
Under the sea.
-Vars and Dunham

What makes you sad?
The poets down here don’t write nothin’ at all
They just stand back and let it all be. -Bruce Springsteen

How do you feel when you think about your biggest mistake?
Those memories come back to haunt me
They haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true
Or is it somethin’ worse? -Bruce Springsteen

Some words to live by
When My Mornin' comes around
No one else will be there
So I won't have to worry
About what I'm supposed to say—

And I alone will know
That I've climbed the great big mountain
And that's all that will matter
When my mornin' comes around. - Iris Dement

Very classic. I love it!
Oh, you're in for a treat, UK! She is an extraordinary singer/songwriter with a voice that goes right to your heart. Her website is here.
Her first album, Infamous Angel, put her on the musical map. Her next one, My Life, is the one I play the most. I became a huge fan after seeing her in concert at the King Cat theater in Seattle in the 90s. She was transcendent... Go up to iTunes and have a listen! She's *perfect* for rainy Seattle days ;)
Love, love, love Patsy Cline. Bravo!
Thanks, Liz - classic ain't bad!

Julie, glad you like - I was going to answer that question a different way, but Patsy just would not let me go..

Meanwhile, I have been humming the Flipper theme song all day ;)
Donna! Bravissima, bella!! Love the Louis Armstrong, but maybe mostly the Patsy Cline. Wonderful choices, all.
Classic is best. Edwin Starr: War. Yeah! Lou Reed: WOOF. All the rest: WOOF WOOF WOOF.
Thanks, Lonnie! And you just made me remember that I taught myself the chords to I Fall to Pieces...many happy hours on the guitar being sad with that song ;)
Aw, thanks, CCC. So many woofs! Speaking of classic, John Sebastian is going to be here in concert next month. I think I'm going to go...
Donna, another great post with great lyrics that let us know who you are. Thank you!
Great collection, Donna.

Joni, Lennon, Paul, The Boss - excellent choices.

Thumbed. After I listened to most of the songs in my head, that is. :-D
I like the Flipper reference ;0)
Awesome stuff! Love these songs!
Thanks, Mary - it was fun to do!

Bill, thanks, I read yours and hummed right along in my head too :)

Dorinda - didn't have to work too hard or think too long about that one; glad you liked it too. (Hmm, I wonder how long that song will live in our collective memory...)
Thanks, dustbowldiva - you should do one too!
These are fun choices, Donna. Of course, now you've got the "Flipper" song stuck in my head permanently. :) I love the word play in your title. Brilliant!
Damn, I wish I had half of your creativity.
Great stuff. I like the War one best.
Aw, thanks everyone. This was such a fun thing to do. If you haven't already, do it too!

Lisa - glad you liked the title, and, sorry about the Flipper song ;)

Roger - thanks - and something tells me that you do!

Odetteroulette - thanks - that song is so great. I love how Bruce Springsteen's resurrected it, and hope one day it won't be pertinent.

UK, thanks again for starting all this, and let me know what you think of Iris....
See, now I know why you are so cool!

Would give the nod to all of these. And "The River" (which is almost never heard anymore ALWAYS makes me WEEP!"

Quick true story of the time my little sister was trying to make it as a singer in NYC (she's still out there---google "Robin "O"Brien" and is quite good---but we are walking along somewhere in NYC
she points up to the top floor of a 3 flat and says "That's where I recorded---I'd take you up for a tour but Lou Reed is up there now and he doesn't like it when people bring in people on tours."

I thought that was SO cool!

Finally trvia question---am I wrong or did Iris Dement marry Greg Brown?
Thanks, Roger! Yep, the River always gets to me too. A little story about that: one day when I was playing the album at my parent's house, I found my dad in the living room reading the lyrics. When The River was finished, he said, this guy is not so bad, he knows what he's talking about. Which was a high compliment from him about anyone in rock, and told me a lot about my his story too. So Bruce built a little bridge between my father and me, for which I will always be grateful.

Great story about your sister and Lou...and yes, Iris did marry Greg Brown. I've never seen/listened to him but I have a lot of friends who are fans. Anyway thanks for stopping by :)
I don't know why but I have been picking some of the late Dave Carters lyrics lately. I suppose a special tribute show on Dave Carter my wife did on radio a short while ago is on my mind. I just transferred the file to one of my hard drives to break it down into tracks as we promised a copy of the show to a friend of Dave as it had so much live recorded material not available to the public.

Anyway this one:

"What would you say to the one who got away?"

in a castle keep, in a vault of stone, in a house at the end of the lane
and old man weeps in his door alone and he sings out this mournful refrain

she will not come back, she will not come back
though the mountains fall down to the sea
and the sky burns to cinders and the river runs black
she will not come back to me

no lightnin' rede from his books of lore, and the staff in the corner, no fire
and the crystal ball always bright before is grey as the dust of desire

she will not come back, she will not come back
though he call on the powers that be
they will cipher this message in his cold zodiac
she will not come back to me

and joy my love was a dancin spring, and life was the touch of her lips
and a brook ran mad to my cave downstream from the miracle hills of her hips

she will not come back, she will not come back
though the stars hang their tears in the trees
And tireless Orion lies spent in his tracks
she will not come back
"Merlin's Lament"- 2001 Dave Carter
I'm not familiar with Dave Carter, but based on the lyrics, he sounds worth looking into...thanks for stopping by!
