101 Words: New Glasses

Rate: 19 Flag

With its high ceilings and velvet couch, it does not feel like a glasses store. She picks out a black pair with crystals on the stems. “Ooh - so You!”

I am not sure.

She pulls another pair, titanium from Japan.

“Also hip!” the sales chorus sings. “But too serious - Not You.”

On again, off again. Never go glasses shopping without a friend!

Pick up the black frames last week. Oh no - Elton John! Sally Jesse Raphael!

Stumble to cafe for consolation coffee. French guy flirts! Salesgirl genius!

Next, new clothes. Things that go with my glasses.

I got to go where you go for my next pair of glasses!
Salesgirl genius!" - love it.
Ottica on First in Seattle...worth a trip! (And thanks for helping get this 101 thing off the ground...)
Thanks, Lonnie - I always resist these things, and then, they're fun!
Why do the frames always look so different after they put the lenses in? Great and very funny post, and one I related to all too well. I've got my own pair of "Elton Johns" gathering dust somewhere, along with another pair that make me look exactly like Yves St Laurent in drag. Now I avoid the hipster shops and go to Costco. At least my mistakes are cheaper there.
... I've got crystals on the stems, Bulgari. nice contrast with the severe frontage. I prefer dichotomy.
Laurel - I know what you mean about the lenses. I only buy glasses once a decade or so (Iwear contacts mostly) so I justify the cost that way ;)

ConnieMack - yeah, the crystals are a little surprise that you don't see looking straight on. I am pretty sure I love them.
Frenchmen make passes at girls that wear glasses -- and don't wear glasses.
Fun!
*Now* you tell me, Lea ;)
Ha-ha! What a revelation! :)
I need 101 pairs of reading glasses and put them all over the place. They are like socks and always disappear.
Perfect! The only thing missing is a picture of the new glasses.
You talk about one of the most important dilemmas of our age (times.)

Great one Donna!
The reading glasses and their proliferation around the house (for some of us, the need came early)can be solved with those little ropes that attach to the sides. Hang em down folks.

Of course you have to come up with a good, humorous rationale that satisfies colleagues, kids and other young people when they see your glasses hanging down , ever ready to bring the close world back into focus.
Wonderful! Been doing this all my life with mixed results...

BTW, I love the picture on your banner--looks like home to me, you PNWer!

Hmm... I don't get new glasses unless the dog eats them or a kid flushes them down the toilet.

Maybe it's time to reconsider.

(Thumbified for ocular fortitude)
So when do we get to see the Elton John look? Very nicely written.
Thanks, screamin mama and everyone - these were actually my first pair of progressive lenses (sound so much nicer than bifocals!) -

Mary - yes, I think reading glasses and socks end up in the same place, some big pile in another dimension..

Lisa, Smithbarney - not quite ready for the picture yet ;)

Gary - my optician gave me the coolest holder for the readers - high tech almost invisible but very sturdy string. Haven't lost it or them, so far ;)

O'Steph - thanks, that's from up in Desolation Sound...but it could be anywhere around here!

Jodi - if they work for you like these worked for me...do it!
So much in so few words! Excellent.

Glasses - with my horrible nearsightedness I've always been able to do fine with contacts. I hate glasses. But now I find I have to - that midlife loss of the OTHER part of my vision. Sigh. And multifocal contacts? Yes they kinda work .................
Ooh, Cherie, I'd love to hear about the multifocal lenses. I wear contacts most of the time. But I *am* having fun with the new glasses!
Love it! I bought my last pair at Costco. Bro says I look like book dweeb. Should've taken him with me when I ordered.
Thumbs up for bifocals!
Glasses... over twenty years of lost, broken, scratched, and out of correction glasses... I hate glasses.
