Cold Turkey in Baja

Rate: 13 Flag

Nah, not that kind....

I'm going to Baja for 11 days and I won't be bringing a laptop. You know what that means...no OS! No comments, no posts, no Freaky, no squirrel...what am I gonna do!!

Oh, that's right. I'm going to be on a boat in the Sea of Cortez for seven days, snorkeling with sea lions, watching whales, and drinking margaritas. (Don't hate me.) Then, after a night in La Paz, we're headed to the Pacific coast for two nights at Magdalena Bay, where we'll camp and kayak and go out in skiffs to see the gray whales and their calves.

Aside from replenishing a severely depleted solar battery, this trip is a celebration of sorts, the end of the first phase of starting my new life and the start of the next. Onward!

Reading list (for the Bibliofiles): I'm bringing John Steinbeck's Log from the Sea of Cortez, Three Cups of Tea, Maisie Dobbs, the Lonely Planet Guide to Baja (of course) and most importantly, a brand new blank moleskin notebook (plain pages, large).

Packing list: 2 bathing suits, sunscreen, sunglasses. I think that's it. Oh, wait, my camera.

I'll tip a glass in your direction, my virtual friends, and come home with plenty of pictures and stories. And I'll keep a sharp eye peeled for Aretha's hat.

(This picture has nothing to do with Baja, but I *know* how you people are about pictures, and it was the sunniest thing I could find when I really should be packing. Hasta luego, amigos!)

Have so much fun and bottle some sun up to bring home in your luggage. Really!
I'll bring some up to Bellingham for you :)
Mmm, moleskine. Sounds like a wonderful trip. I keep looking at those Maisie Dobbs books, but haven't read one yet. Any good? Have a Fabulous Time!
You're still up! Yes, I read the first one and *loved* it. Now onto the second...
Thanks, Stellaa. I'm not a beer person but I will try it in your honor!
I had seven days away from the computer last summer and it was glorious. Besides being outside and doing all the hiking and stuff, I also read novels without feeling compelled to check my e-mail, and the act of moving pen across moleskin journal paper was a sensual delight. Enjoy the sun.
"the sun" wondered the poor frozen michigan resident, 'whatever could that be?"

have a wonderful time!
have a beautiful, relaxing, margarita-soaked vacation!
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! What I wouldn't give to trade this Seattle gray for the Sea of Cortez. Lucky girl.
With a reading list like that, why come back at all? Safe travels, and plain pages, large is the only way to go, s'far as I'm concerned.
Wait! Wait...come back. We have...stuff....to say and...okay, have fun then.
Have a wonderful time, Donna. I know you will. I have had whale-watching in Baja on my want-to-do list for awhile now. Please post your experiences and pictures!
From the Land of Eternal Snows, I lift a jealous glass and bid you Bon Voyage and hope you are back tanned, fit and full of pith and vinegar. And that this is not one of those dreaded OS "hiatuses" (hiati?).

WOOF
sigh.

I'll take the sunflower but we need you back soon with stories of blue seas, sunshine and warmth...and whales of course.
Happy Phase II!
Wow - marvelous! Can't wait to see your pictures. Enjoy.....!
I'm back! I have pictures! And thanks to everyone for the good wishes, I took them with me and we all had chips and salsa on the deck while the blue whales exhaled in the sunset. Really. Back later...(don't worry, CCC, way too hooked to leave this place!)
Welcome back Donna! We kept it cold and damp here for you!
Thanks, Freaky, I see you've been verrrry busy these past few weeks. I am sorry to say, I think it *was* your footprints in the cake.

Hi Nutkin! Thanks for keeping Seattle so nice and cold. But really, you didn't have to make it *snow* the day before I got home....
Oh my dear Mlle Sandstrom! How ever did I miss this lovely submission? I think I realized you'd been on holiday when I noticed a subtle sunny blush on your lovely avatar portrait! A little rest and relaxation can do wonders for the spirit, can it not?
Indeed it can, my dear Monsieur, and indeed it has. It is the re-entry into, how do you call it, reality, that is posing a bit of a challenge. I think I will sort through my pictures again. Thank you for stopping by!
