#2 “Why do Chet’s kids look at him like he’s Zeus and my kids look at me like I’m a rack of lawn tools at Sears?” -Roman Craig - The Great Outdoors 1988
Competition is created in life, yet do we realize we create competition against those most close to us?
The Great Outdoors.. awesome movie, full of intense one-liners! Powerful words that gravitate towards the un-spoken humor in life. That even family competes without knowing it. I find it interesting how two people connected by relativity and genes can find inner competition. If you haven't seen the movie its worth the time.
Take a moment to think... do you believe your children are better than other children? Do you compare your kids looks, performance, audacity, and charm against other kids in your sphere? I am a victim of thinking that my kid is the exception, the best thing since the invention of electricity. Maybe its because its a product of creation, my genes, and my own eye glass perfection. Yes, I said perfection. If we didn't think we were perfect in our own way, we wouldn't move through the day in our own shoes.
Bottom line.. what is the reason we are competing against our own families? We are in a world of status rankings. I rank you, you rank me. My kid is stellar, yours is mediocre. But, who's ultimately keeping score? Do the kids know this? Sibling rivalry is another story.. but next time you say "wow my kid is a stud on the field", remember.. so is every other parent.
