#13 “Well I’m the captain. That’s my job. It’s no good for me to go waving my arms in the air and screaming “Oh shit, we’re gonna die!” That doesn’t invoke much confidence, does it?” Quinn - Six Days Seven Nights 1998
We in times of need realize that its the way we handle a situation that provides us resolution. Is life about "survival of the fittest"? Do we selfishly compete against those we don't trust? Or compete against ourselves because we don't trust ourself?
Do we put trust and credibility into the same stack ranking?
Are we drawn in life to trust those in higher excellence because they have a title? Think about titles for a second. Who announces power through a name? Are we assuming a name gives them credibility? Look at the powerful people in your life. What power do they exude?
A pilot is the captain of a plane, a president is a leader of a country, a teacher is the the truth for our children, and yet a doctor is the man of medicine.
Back to survival.. do we risk ourselves for the survival of others? I often at times believe I would risk my life for another, but then I confuse the fact that who would be risked by me not being around. I can't honestly say I know what power I exude, but I do know that to someone I am powerful. I have a title. We all have titles.
So its man vs. man. Life versus life. Nature vs. nature. You versus me. I vs. you. Who wins? Who loses? Who survives.......
We can rationalize all day about what it is that makes us react. What it is that makes us choose. But, ultimately people mean more than words. Words have meaning in people, yet the symbol of who they are is what makes them unique. Isn't that true? Don't you trust me?
