#26 “We have the tools, and we have the talent.” Winston - Ghostbusters 1984
We are all given a certain make up of characteristics. The tools we have can literally be used or be put away. Our talent can be expressed or go un-delivered. Either way, someone can claim we actually have talent or we don't. I used to tie the word talent to someone who can sing, or someone who can draw, or a person that has a physically charismatic skill. But, what does the word "talent" mean?
Are you competing the talents of others based on stereotypes of who deems someone talented?
I claim talented people are gifted. Talented people have a skill and they embarked on that drive to share it with the world. But say for instance, someone had talent... but they couldn't share it. Who's their biggest competition? Can you be born with this talent? Or is it a make up of specific tools given to us that force talent on society and into perception? Don't we all want to be someone, or be recognized as someone?
I can run a few miles... am I talented? I can recite an entire movie... am I talented? I can stand up in front of 100 people and speak...am I talented?
Hmmm, does it take talent to follow our own competitive nature to be someone? Remember when you were growing up and people were recognized for their accomplishments. Remember how those people felt knowing that they were labeled as "talented". If you look back now.. were they even talented? Or were they just utilizing the tools of life to embark on society's exercises? We label it talent because there was a mark, a standard. And when someone did it better, faster, or with character.. we called them talented.
We all can see each other exude a personality that is either charismatic or dull. We can find those that are charming and witty, and then see those that are one-dimensional and un-interesting. However, if we are all given the same set of tools.. why does one person use those tools and succeed, and another person makes the same attempt to try and they ultimatley fail?
Can you juggle bowling pins, can you throw a 50 yard touchdown pass, can you make someone laugh?
