If you could make a wish and it would come true, would you wish to be young again? Think about the media, the message is always about growing up and getting older. The message is about graduating life through steps and phases. Yet, when it comes time to revert back to being a kid again we just don't seem to have the energy like we used to. We must grow by taking our first steps, we learn how to drive, we get to vote, we graduate college, we get a job, we have a family, and then we grow that family, knowing they will be growing up on their own eventually.
"I'm a big kid look what I can do"..... Come on you know the jingle....."I can wear big kid pants too!"
Why are we destined to start out in diapers, eating smashed up food... and then ultimately we are ending up in diapers again eating smashed up food again? Is the circle of life to compete system of aging? What comes along with being "big"? Does it mean responsibility? Does it mean accountability? When we realize that its more than an emotional competition with others, its time to realize that just have to be better at aging. I mean there is always plastic surgery.
How do you know when you are big? Who says, "you are big now, go out there and do this?
Remember when you thought you were so big. You thought, I am an adult now, I can make my own decisions. Were you really making the best decisions? Are you making them now? If you only knew what "big" meant then, would you be as accountable? I am a fool for thinking that it gets easier when you become an adult. I am a fool for thinking that there is a reason to the eighteen years it takes to grow up.
Because ultimately... we learn something new each day. We teach someone something new each day. We continue to grow, we continue to age. We get "big" because we just know we have to.
Who do you know that has done "big" justice? Are you surrounded by them? Are you running away from them? If you could mimic them, would you? Maybe you already have. So set the example, its ok to be "big" to someone; its ok to be important. Just don't forget who you were and how many times you stumbled. Life is a pick up... full of opportunity. Its what you make of it. If you get lost... go to Toys r'us... "its where a kid can be a kid".
