#79 “Alright! Just act professional. I can get you your money!” Colin Sullivan - The Departed 2006
Act like a professional huh? What exactly is a professional? Is it someone who gets up early puts on the suit and carries a briefcase into the office? Is it a talent where you can nail 3-point shots and get fouled just in time to gain the chance at a 1-point lead? Is a professional a teacher, a writer, a singer, an artist, an architect, a lawyer, a police officer or even a stock broker? Aren’t we all professionals in one way or another?
Is making money, or getting money really what it takes to be considered professional?
Realistically speaking, once we make it our reality to succeed, we depart from our past reality in which we’ve strived to unveil. Think about all the years that it took to be where you are today. Think about how much work, effort, revelation, let down, perseverance, failure and recourse it took to make you; you. When we understand that our mission in life is to continue to get better; why is it that we stop wanting our dreams when we get comfortable?
Are people more afraid of change, or the risk associated with chance?
Each day I risk independence; each day I risk success and failure. When I realize that independence and risk create failure; I know that its better to be connected, than to be apart. Think about this for a minute, if we didn’t make choices in life, would we have to create more exceptions? Would we have to appear strong, even though we are weak? Who makes us strong, and who makes us weak? I wanted to know who sets the bar on this thing we call competition. I seek those answers each posting. Trying to figure out who is actually keeping score.
Is my score: Success 1, Family 1, Failure 50?
No, that can’t be. Score is what makes you, you. Scoring is what adds to your stamina. Being complacent is what adds to your history. Remember that points are given for goals scored, or baskets made. Points are put up on the scoreboard for accomplishments, not when you drop the 40 yard pass or when you putt over the green into the bunker. Keep your chin up; life comes full circle. Money is transferable, and at any point you can gain it or lose it; but your pride is up on the board. Your pride is measured more on a level in which only you can calculate.
