" Hi, Gilbert. I'm a nerd too. I just found that out tonight. We have news for the beautiful people. There's a lot more of us then there are of you." -Lewis
Ah... to be a nerd. Yes, you heard me... a nerd! Isn't that the truth? We all get labels, we all seek to get out of the "nerd bunch" philosophy nominated by perception... but, is it true; are there real dorks, and even nerdier nerds? I remember watching this movie at a young age, thought that nerds were the epidemic plague of high school. They just seemed so easy to pick on, so easy to target, and so easy to manipulate. But, you know.. they are people too. And, in our own little weird way... we are nerds just as much as they were.
"Jocks only think about sports, nerds only think about sex." - Lewis
Isn't that the case? While the jocks are flexing their biceps, and staring at their pecs in the mirror, the nerds are planning their next pick up line, their biggest move; they are seeking out their prey. Have the jocks gotten too busy with their own image that they left all the women to the nerds? If there are only the nerds paying attention to the females, then yes; the jocks kinda got the short end of the stick. But, didn't the jocks still score, because they were jocks?
"Those nerds are a threat to our way of life." - Stan Gable
At first you classify a nerd as the outsider, the pants up to the chest library nut. Someone who frequents the reference section and stares at the card catalog. But, as you see... they end up being the smart ones. The successful ones. The ones with the talent, and skill to produce those big paydays. If we could only take back those nerd jokes, untied their shoes before they tripped, and put a stop to the sticky glue on their collection of pens that sat neatly in their pocket protectors; would we be a savior to the nerds?
Is a nerd born, or given a title after so many years of nerd like behavior?
I often at times forget how perception scopes the world's view of status. Being a nerd is the label; acting like a dork is just something drunk people do. Right? But, playing into revenge, as a nerd, well... that is just like a jock on hiatus and a prom queen without her king. Think about this... how many nerds did you know? How many nerds were in your circle of friends? If you ran into them now; would you walk away thinking.. "damn, they are still the same ole nerd from high school". Or, would you say.. "damn, I was way off, they are not as nerdy as I once thought?".
Either way, maybe you were the nerd, and the only thing you can say is "damn, I was the coolest nerd I knew, and I got the chicks anyways". Maybe you were the nerd rescuer, or the closeted friend of a nerd.
Either way, you can take the high school out of the nerd, but not the nerd out of high school.
