"Day by day I struggle to maintain not only my strength but also my sanity. It's all a blur. I don't know what's right or wrong anymore. The morale of the men is low, a civil war in the platoon. There's a lot of suspicion and hate. I can't believe we're fighting each other, when we should be fighting them." Chris Taylor
- Platoon 1986
There is a point in a man's life that he realizes he is a man. There are messages in the media and print that idealize the common characteristics of what a man is supposed to be; Strong. Powerful. Dominant. Smart. Athletic. Brave. When we realize the role of our internal and external make-up; are we critics to ourself?
The symbol of a man is a symbol of power. A society full of men, is a confident society.
If there are correlations between the two; Men and power, Sex and relationships, Drive and success. What is the fall-out for the weak? Who makes us weak? When it comes to life and death, the competition to be a man is based on ultimate survival. In an egotistical way... can often at times say that judgment day is what separates the men from the boys. Judgment day is when we have our opportunity to reflect on our wins and salivate the losses.
As we choose our destiny by making choices. Have we chosen our strengths based on physical attributes?
Each person's goal is to be comfortable in their own shoes. Each person's success is written by confidence. Are you confident? Can you safely assume that you exude confidence? If so, is it because you arrived at that conclusion based on your external make-up, or is it because you were told about your internal character? Gender, sex, power, fulfillment... all terms that are universal.
If we continue to fight each other for status and power, are we continuing to lose against our own gender?
I am strong, yet, I understand weakness. I am brave, but I can relate to fear. I am right but can't be invincible to wrong. I am blind, but I can see the clear picture. I can't hear but I am listening to you. I am alive, but does that mean I am breathing?
Character is a universal attribute. Life is a powerful struggle. Living life with character and power will open doors. Hiding behind a shield will close the door. Its time to put yourself out there. Find out what is is that allows you to take risk, make choices and be yourself.
Can you be a hero, or can you be a saint?
