Title
One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#110 "As Good as It Gets" ... metaphorically speaking

Rate: 2 Flag

 As good as it gets

"I'm drowning here, and you're describing the water!"

Melvin Udall

- As Good as It Gets 1997

Take a little trip back into time. Clear your mind and relax your senses. It is a defining moment to realize what you were and who you have become. Is it as good as it gets? I ponder that thought metaphorically. I am a metaphoric critic. I see the tying of two separate things, concepts, images and opposites, brought together by interpretation to generate a clear message for the receiver; as creative as it can get.

When we say the sun is as colorful as a banana; are we saying the sun is yellow? When we say the world is our playground; are we saying we swing and we slide and play in the sand within our own surroundings?

Events draw conclusions for the human individual. Life enlists questions for the hesitant individual. Its a endless ocean of opportunity, and we need to start swimming. This film circled around three individuals; Melvin, Carol and Simon. Three unique individuals and a dog. As I reflect on the film, its safe to say that the dog was metaphoric. The dog brought the three of them into a triangle. Not a love triangle; one was gay.

We are surrounded by metaphors in our daily grinds. We are constantly searching for things we relate to to generate meaning,  opposed to things we are subtly against.

"If you stare at someone long enough, you discover their humanity." - Simon Bishop

I question the humanity of oneself when put up against endless boundaries of another. Are our boundaries the limits in which we allow distraction? Are our boundaries defining of how we go about our morality? When we realize that we make the bed we sleep in, we must realize that we also choose who's welcome in it.

"Have you ever let a romantic moment make you do something that you knew was stupid?" - Carol Connelly

Here are some metaphor's for you... my favorite first.

"My momma always says, life is like a box of chocolates.. you never know what you are going to get. " - Forrest Gump

"Time is money" - unknown

"A buffet of safety" - Edward Lewis  - "Pretty Woman"

"Don't judge a book by its cover" - Beauty and the Beast

"The sky is the limit" - unknown

When we push to find truth, we forget that we are persuaded by metaphors. I think life is as good as it gets; depending on how much you want to put in it. Witty or not; creative or not; interesting or boring; we are more than we think; we are symbolic. We are walking metaphors.

Love it!

* Among my favs (since it brings two passions of movies & baseball together):
I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions, and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I heard that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us.
Another day older and deeper in debt, about says it all for me!
One of my faves too. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Metaphorically... Rosary is like a baseball... 108 stitches of meaning.
Thanks moviegeekjn
scanner... older and debt; two clear words.. not metaphoric. How about debt ages like our body.. tiredly???

Hmmm... interesting
Another James Brooks classic. There is something inherently funny about a bitter, misanthropic romance novelist.
It had some irresistible zingers as well, his character was so obnoxious - "Don't worrry, you'll be back on your knees in no time."
Or "How do you write women so well?"
"I think of a man, then take away all reason and accountability."
