One Movie Line At A Time
Bio
Growing up loving movies, and quoting infamous lines, N. Jordan is about taking life's given competition and embracing it through movies quotes. Each posting reflects a personal understanding on how movies effect people, our lives and our fake realities. If life is a movie, why do we compete in so many ways? Sports, love, relationships, family, business, money, career, kids, etc. Its time to see who is keeping score. Because... life is sometimes an altered reality, just go at it one movie line at a time. My real name is Michelle Keifer. But, I've always wanted to talk about life through a guy's perspective. Just seemed so fitting as I've always been just one of the boys. Go New England Patriots!

#139 "Body of Lies" ...trust no one and yes deceive everyone

Rate: 7 Flag

body of lies

" You are a rare and delicate flower! "

Roger Ferris

Body of Lies

2008

This film didn't get all the hype or recognition that many Leo films expose. However, it was a great film that gave us another brilliant performance by Leonardo DiCaprio as we uncover that deceit, truth and honesty are sometimes the best policy in situational circumstances.

Along the lines of "Body of Lies", the affiliation to the theme of the CIA and the US intelligence provides audiences the destructive nature of truth and terrorists intervention

We all swear by the reality that the truth is what sets you free; however, the truth in some cases, represents how you need to protect the reign in which you hold onto each day. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Roger Ferris, and Ferris is the best man for the job with regards to the operations that take him around the world in pursuit of an emerging terrorist attack. The plan to destruct the most intelligent network in the world keeps you on the edge of your seat as the plot thickens and truth be told conforms.

In all actuality, the pursuit of ones trust is, and will become a dangerous mission for oneself once discovered that trust is the only thing that will get you out alive.

Coming full circle to the reality at hand, trust is what makes the reality of your existence, less deceitful. As we focus on the two main characters in this film, Roger Ferris (Leo) and  Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe), we see their contrasting styles and autocracies on their view surrounding trust.  Roger believes in trust too much, while Ed has more of a concrete view of  truth and morality. With the terrorists steering clear of means of communications via telephone, Internet, and computers; the face-to-face interactions become more and more valuable in affirming the mission. Roger and Ed must compete together to survive and the true test of survival comes down to living within your own body of lies.

"Nobody's innocent in this shit." - Ed Hoffman

I think about life in regards to this theme. We are technology junkies; its a fact. The human is reliant on less face-to-face interactions, and more reliant on the deception in which we hide are characters through the screen, the phone or the email. Deception to the idea that we can be anyone we want. Most never cease to change; however, some use it as their alter ego.

I often ponder the thought; do people talk less now because of technology?

Are there more opportunities for distrust and deceit due to an increased desire in technology?

The way of the spoken word, is the written word for the interpreter. We speak to portray confidence when give the authority, yet, we coward in situations in which the confidence is overpowered. Some end up wanting clarity and explanation, while some are confused or misinterpreted by language. Humans are examples of the body of lies in which one possesses when given the opportunity to explore language's understandings.

Are the trusting souls meant to be most trusted? Or do we just assume trust comes with power and authority, and we must exude confidence in our actions or get lost in translation?

I could discuss this film's plot and life's theme for a thousand more words, but, the truth of the matter is... trust develops amongst your own interpretation. Whether or not you compete to explore it through the many options you have to express it will decipher the delivery of morality in which you choose to live by.

another one I missed - i think swayed by all the negative publicity re Russell Crowe at that time. Thank you for bringing it onto the radar.
Yes.. Russell wasn't my favorite at the time either; hence why I delayed in watching it.
Thanks Brian B... always so great of you to comment!
I've always liked Crowe, I guess because he doesn't take any shit from anyone. Leo did a great job in this film. I love these type of books more than the films. I've read all the Bourne books, and Matt Damon is great in them, but bringing it to the screen is really impossible. It seems these type movies always end up with no one trusting anyone. I wonder if in real life situations, this is the case. If it is, I can understand why we thought they had WMD's in Iraq. If they wanted to, they could make us think Disney World is a terrorists front for the Taliban! Another Great Post!
1) Leo and Russell: how come I've never heard of it? You're going to cost me money because I'm going to have to spring for a bigger Netflix plan.
2) I plan to see Shutter Island - IF IT EVER STOPS SNOWING!
3) A few of my Favorites are from Sacramento - what's in the water out there?
Interesting commentary on trust, truth, and technology.
scanner.. I really like the Bourne series. I haven't read the books... now I will have to. The idea about DisneyWorld is so true.. we could honestly take it even further. Truth is deceit for sure in most cases.

Thanks Linda!!! Appreciate it
1st.. yes, great match up and I am sooo sorry about the netflix ;-)
2nd... I am with you on the snow.. we had a taste of summer, now its dreadfully raining.
3rd.. thank you... I guess us California natives are just living up to the dream that exudes this state.

Thanks for the comments; as always appreciative!
Leo did a good job here; he's in his mature stage now.
Great review as always, rated.
Truth and trust -- and what they have to do with each other. Huge themes right now in the public arena! Thanks for this! Julie
After reading your commentary I too want to see this movie. What a combo "Leo" and "Russell". I am of the opinion the Truth will set you free even if it means death. weird... rated
