What's Eating Gilbert Grape
1993
This film opened up our eyes, our souls, and our perceptions to the world of selfless acts and uncanny personalities. This film starred both Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp as brothers; brothers with a bond, an obese mother and a fatherless environment. I have to agree that this identified Leonardo as a remarkable actor with an in depth ability to portray a character of such versatility on film and into the hearts of the world. With themes surrounding brotherhood, autism, care-taking and love; What's Eating Gilbert Grape was a phenomenal film.
I often ponder the thought of life in this form of existence. I'm most definitely certain that many of us know, known or have experiences in a situation similar to the thematic interpretation of this film.
Knowing you are as unselfish and integrated in a world where the soul takes care of the body, and the body becomes the soul; the reality of leaning on someone is just as grand; it is just as fulfilling.
Think about your daily routine. How much do you rely on someone? How much do you feel held accountable to someone? Life takes us through different elements with different interpretations to expose us to times where we are most found valuable; and indefinitely found accountable. When we ponder the validity of feeling invaluable, we must own up to the energy in which we convey; or we become lost in knowing what we are meant to live for.
Is it true that you find love when you are not looking?
Is it true that you become loved when you live your life unselfishly?
Becky was a character introduced because as a free spirit stranded with car trouble and awaiting car parts with her grandma. Becky; played by Juliette Lewis, was the soul that built Gilbert's walls while Gilbert struggled to keep those walls up and maintain his known foundation. The concept of someone adding that foundation to your life is the concept that adding additional emotion and admiration for another can eat you up inside.
So have you ever thought about "What's Eating YOU?"
The idea of "fitting it all in" comes with the perception that you can only do so much in a given period of time. Many can concur and realize that fitting it ALL in, most likely isn't EVERYTHING; but it can be SOMETHING. That something can be life revitalization.
What happens when you are torn between new love and old responsibility?
Leonardo and Johnny taught audiences the importance of standing tall and being someones hero. Autism is heroic. Autism is tall. This film based on circumstances, was interpreted as a coming of age look into man, as a hero, in a different form of existence. Not one that saved planet over an alien invasion, or one that raced a car through the desert looking for redemption. This film searched and found the soul in a man's determination to co-exist in a life built around challenges, but held strongly together with love.
Leonardo DiCaprio filled this past week with great films, incredible quotes and interesting insight into his world on screen. I hope you all enjoyed his remarkable work and my interpretations of life's given competition in what makes us, US. Thanks to all you avid readers who made this week as special as the messages we seek to find each time we pop that popcorn and pull up a chair to be entertained.

Thanks for your comment!
You are reminding me of years ago, when I used to hold "Film Festival" days with my friends, a few films chosen around a person or theme with lots of good food and commentary!
Thanks, Movie Jordan! (Like Air Jordan, but with film! I think it's going to stick!) Love, Julie
